This includes pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure assistance, monitoring of sedation and patient response, and post-procedure recovery. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care throughout the procedural experience.Essential FunctionsAssesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy proceduresAdministers and monitors conscious sedation and manages patient responses during proceduresAssists physicians with endoscopic procedures including biopsies, polyp removal, and hemostasisMonitors patient condition, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, reporting changes promptlyProvides pre- and post-procedure patient education and discharge instructionsDocuments all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accuratelyMaintains a safe and clean environment, adheres to infection control and safety protocolsHandles specimens appropriately and ensures proper labeling and documentationParticipates in performance improvement initiatives and staff educationResponds effectively to emergencies and follows facility emergency protocolsKnowledge/Abilities/Skills/ExpectationsStrong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skillsProficient in IV therapy, sedation monitoring, and airway managementExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environmentFamiliarity with endoscopic equipment, sterile technique, and procedural workflowCompetency in electronic documentation and EMR systemsCommitment to continuous professional development and team collaborationPhysical ability to assist with patient positioning and respond to clinical demandsQualificationsEducationAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN), requiredBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferredLicenses/CertificationsCurrent Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practiceBasic Life Support (BLS), required within time frame specified in facility policyAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), required within time frame specified in facility policyPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferredExperienceMinimum 6 months of clinical nursing experience in a direct patient care setting preferredPrevious endoscopy, perioperative, or critical care experience preferred
