This role provides strategic supervision and coaching to campus principals and ensures all campuses demonstrate continuous academic growth, strong leadership practices, and safe, inclusive learning environments.A central charge of this role is to prevent any campus from receiving a failing grade ("D" or "F") under the Texas Accountability System. This includes proactive leadership of instructional improvement strategies, leadership development, and system-level alignment with TEA, Board, and district expectations.In collaboration with the Chief Learning Officer and other senior leaders, the Assistant Superintendent will lead school improvement efforts, ensure regulatory compliance, align supports to campus needs, and maintain high standards for leadership excellence and student outcomes.All district leaders are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, lead with urgency, champion equity and excellence, and communicate clearly with all stakeholders.QUALIFICATIONS: Required:Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Educational Leadership, or related fieldTexas Mid-Management or Principal CertificationMinimum of 10 years in public education, with at least 5 years in campus administration or supervisory leadershipExperience as a successful campus principalPreferred:Doctorate in Education or related fieldProficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing)Experience in a diverse, high-performing school districtSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Deep understanding of the Texas Accountability System, including A-F ratings, STAAR, TELPAS, and TEA reporting requirementsStrong familiarity with the Texas Effective Schools Framework (ESF) and campus improvement planning (CIP/TIP) processesKnowledge of TEKS-aligned instruction, instructional frameworks, student intervention systems, and assessment practicesUnderstanding of district organization, policy, and procedures to effectively support campus operations and complianceWorking knowledge of federal and state mandates, including Title I, Special Education, and ESL/Bilingual education requirementsProven ability to coach, evaluate, and develop principals and school leadership teams for sustained school improvementSkilled in analyzing multiple data sources (academic, attendance, behavior, staffing, and finance) to inform responsive leadership decisionsStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, resolve conflict, and foster collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholdersAbility to align instructional practices and operations to district-wide strategic goals and state accountability standardsExperience in managing change, crisis situationsAbility to cultivate a pipeline of leadership talent through intentional development, succession planning, and performance coachingMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Campus Supervision and Leadership Support:Provide leadership and oversight to assigned campuses, ensuring continuous academic growth and operational excellenceSupervise and evaluate campus principals, using multiple data sources to inform annual performance reviewsSet clear performance expectations aligned to district goals, TEA standards, and Board policyEnsure every school receives at least a "C" or higher rating in the Texas Accountability SystemMonitor school improvement efforts, including implementation of Campus Improvement Plans (CIPs)Serve as the primary leadership coach and support to principals, ensuring alignment to the district's instructional frameworkLead leadership development initiatives and succession planning within assigned areaInstructional and Operational Alignment:Monitor and support the delivery of high-quality, TEKS-aligned instruction on every campusPartner with Academic Services to ensure curriculum alignment and professional development supportEnsure fidelity to district expectations for instructional practice, student assessment, and intervention systemsPromote the consistent use of data to guide instruction and campus decision-makingSupport campuses in maintaining safe, orderly learning environments, including adherence to student discipline policiesAccountability, Compliance, and Performance Monitoring:Track performance metrics across campuses including STAAR results, TELPAS, discipline, attendance, dropout rates, and teacher retentionIdentify performance trends and root causes, and work with principals to develop responsive action plansEnsure campus adherence to state and federal mandates including Title I, special education, and bilingual/ESL requirementsPartner with relevant departments to align central support services to campus needsRespond to and resolve campus concerns, complaints, or crises in a timely and effective mannerStakeholder Engagement and Communication:Establish strong relationships with campus leaders, families, community organizations, and central office teamsServe as a liaison between schools and the Chief Learning Officer, Superintendent, and BoardEnsure principals communicate effectively with their school communities regarding academic progress and improvement plansPromote shared leadership and community engagement on every campusCollaboration and Strategic Alignment:Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, supporting district-wide strategy and decision-makingCollaborate across departments (HR, Finance, Academics, Operations, etc.) to meet campus needsLead initiatives or task forces as assigned by the Chief Learning Officer or SuperintendentRepresent the district at events, Board meetings, and community functions as requestedOther Duties:Maintain high expectations for professionalism, collaboration, and ethical conductMaintain required documentation and reports in accordance with district policyComply with all federal requirements for time and effort reporting if federally fundedPerform all other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities:Directly supervises assigned school principals and any assigned central office staff, and indirectly supervises all personnel in the assigned area.WORKING CONDITIONS:The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide, occasional prolonged and irregular hours and participation required and some district functions. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
