Work Schedule: 0.3 FTE Continuing Position - 180-day base contract per year (Schedule To Be Determined)Reports To: Executive Director of Special EducationSalary: Per Marysville Education Association Negotiated Salary ScheduleBase & TRI Salary Schedule at https://www.msd25.org/o/District/page/employee-groupsAccount Code: 2119-26-2110-000-2000-0000-0Job Summary:This position shall facilitate services, evaluation, and consultation for those students with vision impairment who qualify (or may qualify) for IDEA Part B Special Education services.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Washington State Teacher certificate with Special Education endorsementPrevious experience working with students both as a Orientation & Mobility Specialist requiredExcellent oral and written communication skillsBasic Knowledge of IDEA Part C and IDEA Part BExperience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferredEssential Job Functions:This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:Direct instruction in visual efficiency, tactile symbols, Braille, assistive technology, auditory skills, social skills, use of near and low vision devices and other areas of the expanded core curriculumSupporting parents of preschoolers and school-age students as they help their children reach developmental milestones with adapted strategies specific to needs related to the visual impairmentProviding support to the student to facilitate development of self-esteem, self-determination and social acceptance within the school contextModifying the environment to accommodate specific visual needsModeling appropriate techniques for providing instructionProviding, creating, and acquiring adapted materialsProviding in-service training and consultation to the school teamEvaluate the TVI and/or O&M needs of students in the school district as neededWrite IEPs goals and objectives specific to qualified students, which may include providing direct services.Recommending adapted strategies for access to the general curriculum and participation in the school communityAssist with a vision-specific support system is in place for transitioning from school to adult life for older studentsBuilding independence and success in the school environmentOrienting students to unfamiliar environmentsInstructing in efficient use of low vision for movementTeaching efficient use of low vision devicesTeaching use of mobility tools, including the long cane and adaptive mobility devices, for safely negotiating the environmentOrdering and providing adapted textbooks, as appropriate for each studentMaintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hoursProfessionally interact with students, staff, and publicComply with all district policies and proceduresPerform related duties as assignedDesired Skills:Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with families and school staff regarding students with visual impairments (both oral and written communication is required)Knowledge of special education qualification standards and services in a school setting in accordance with district, state and federal requirementsAbility to establish working relationships and trust with families and staffWork Environment:The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.Evaluation:This position shall be evaluated periodically by the Executive Director of Special Education and/or assigns pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria.
