Long-Term Substitute Comprehensive Science Teacher
Position: Long-Term Subsitute Comprehensive Science TeacherReports to: Building PrincipalQualifications: Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or universityAppropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/licenseMeet the applicable requirements of a "highly qualified" teacher under the No Child Left Behind Act within the appropriate timelinesAlternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriateEssential functions are listed below, however they are not limited to those listed: Implore proper safety procedures of all studentsTeach, assess, and intervene using evidence-based instructional practicesEffectively manage the classroom and maintain a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of studentsPrepare clear and timely lesson plans (providing complete lesson plans for substitute) and maintain accurate, complete and correct records as requiredAttend parent/teacher conferences and communicate effectively through the use of interim reports and report cardsEnsure students are learning all subject material by regular and varied assessmentsDevelop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure for the classroom, and maintain order in the classroomDemonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learnersInteract in a positive and professional manner with staff, students and parentsMaintain respect at all times for confidential informationAttend meetings and in-services as required by negotiated agreementObserve the Ohio Educator StandardsConduct school business through proper channelsComply with all board policies and administrative guidelinesPerform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or building PrincipalNotify parents and administration if student is not meeting classroom goals in a timely mannerMaintain and improve professional competenceIdentify student needs, and cooperate with other professional staff in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problemsAttend educational field tripsAdhere to OTES/OTES 2.0 rubric for evaluationOther Duties and Responsibilities: Interact with public in official capacity when requiredInteract with Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information as requestedServe as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beingsSupervise student teachersRespond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate mannerEstablish and maintain cooperative professional relationshipsAssist in the determination of appropriate curriculum, materials, supplies, and texts in cooperation with the Curriculum Director, Principal and/or Guidance CounselorServe on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed uponAttend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issuesInstill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic valuesCounsel, advise, encourage, and motivate studentsServe on curriculum committees when requestedInteract with other departments and school personnel when necessaryDelegate work when appropriate and supervise sameDiscipline students when necessaryRefer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to Principal and/or Guidance CounselorPerform other duties as assigned by the building Principal or designeeThis job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
