Construction Design Engineer

Summary: Drafts and analyzes temporary designs for bridge and infrastructure construction projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare detailed CAD models of temporary structure designs and work plans, such as bridge erection, bridge demolition, concrete forming and temporary shoring/sheeting designs. Help develop and maintain electronic CAD file database of standard drawings, details and materials to be used. Make basic geometric computations to determine layout, strength of materials and requirements for structural design. Perform fundamental engineering computations for temporary construction elements design Perform field visit to do verify designs and collect information. Work and communicate effectively with external entities such as clients, owners, vendors, and consultants as well as internal entities such as other design engineers, the CAD department, and field personnel to develop safe, economic, and appropriate engineering solutions. Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction. Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering field. Engineer in Training (EIT) credentials are preferred. Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office software. Previous modeling and construction detailing experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic Knowledge and understanding of construction practices and constructability. Ability to perform basic structural analysis such as design loads, beam shear and moment diagrams, strength of materials, etc. Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Excel and Word, AutoCAD. Proficiency in written and spoken English language. Strong multi-tasking skills are required.
