We aim to hire a Custodian and Maintenance Coordinator (CMC) who is self-driven and a team player with a strong attention to detail. The CMC works to create an efficient, safe, and secure working environment in support of the instructional program. The CMC works with the Executive Director (ED) and the entire leadership team to keep the facility, logistics, grounds, and safety requirements top-notch. Success requires the ability to stay well organized, have strong time management skills, can balance several ongoing tasks, and pay close attention to details. They must be able to work well around Baxter students at all times.
The CMC handles daily facility management of the school to ensure school leadership can focus on teaching and learning by managing daily building, grounds, and safety operations including managing maintenance, repairs, special projects, and safety drills.
The Custodian and Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for:
Maintaining a clean and safe school which includes all high-use areas that students and staff members use during the day (bathrooms, public commons, garbage removal, etc).
Monitoring the need for repairs, replacement, painting, and any outsourcing of projects that cannot be done internally
Collaborate with night custodial staff to ensure all tasks are completed in providing a safe and clean learning environment
Respond to emergency issues, alarms, etc.
Maintains, cleans, and refuels our Baxter van; may serve as a driver occasionally
Manages supplies and equipment procurement, maintenance, and inventory
Support campus, staff, and student safety and security including emergency management
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations relating to workplace & student safety
Plan/implement projects to improve/modernize the workplace when school is out of session
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
The activities of the school change on a seasonal basis and this role’s responsibilities and duties will reflect those changes; the Custodian and Maintenance Coordinator will be a team player and flexible every day. An ideal candidate is well-organized, an effective project manager, comfortable in a dynamic environment, and flexible in working with many types of people.
Essential Skills/Certification:
Experience with building maintenance (recommended)
Past professional cleaning experience (required)
Experience with driving (required)
Experience/Ability to learn MDOE safety protocols
Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite (recommended)
Current Driver’s License
Attention to detail and ability to function in a dynamic high school environment
MDOE CHRC Authorization (required within 30 days of hire date)
Annual salary to be determined based on experience. Range: $42,000.00 - $47,000.00, or based on experience.)
