Field Engineer - Utilities

We are seeking a Field Engineer to support the execution and readiness of utility infrastructure projects in the San Ramon area. This role is highly hands-on and field-focused, working closely with Construction Managers, Project Managers, contractors, engineering teams, and permitting authorities to ensure projects are fully prepared and compliant for construction. The ideal candidate brings required utilities industry experience, strong field coordination capabilities, and a practical understanding of construction sequencing, permitting, and job readiness. Key Responsibilities: Provide hands-on field engineering support for multiple utility construction projects, ensuring work aligns with approved plans, specifications, and utility standards. Coordinate construction readiness activities, including design validation, constructability reviews, and field verification to ensure projects are ready to mobilize. Support permitting, inspections, and approvals by coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies. Conduct regular site visits to observe conditions, verify work quality, and support field issue resolution. Partner with Construction Managers to support contractor coordination, sequencing, and day-to-day field execution. Track quantities, schedules, costs, and construction progress using Microsoft Excel and project tracking tools. Assist with field documentation, including RFIs, as-builts, daily logs, and progress reports. Identify field constraints, safety concerns, and constructability risks; propose solutions and escalate as needed. Support compliance with utility safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Utilities industry experience is required (electric, gas, water, or telecommunications). 3+ years of hands-on field engineering or construction experience supporting utility infrastructure projects. Experience coordinating permitting, inspections, and construction readiness activities. Proven ability to support multiple concurrent projects in an active field environment. Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field coordination, and contractor interface. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking quantities, costs, schedules, and field data. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Willingness to travel locally for frequent site visits. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working directly with utility owners or large utility contractors. Familiarity with project management and construction systems such as SAP and Primavera P6. Experience supporting utility job walkdowns, pre-construction meetings, and turnover to construction.
