Structural Engineer

What We're Looking For:Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Structural Project Engineer (PE and/or SE) to join our growing Structural Engineering team in our Birmingham, AL office.The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in structural design, analysis, and project delivery, and will serve as the structural lead and Engineer of Record for a variety of project sectors including Industrial, Healthcare, Mission Critical/Data Centers, Commercial, Federal, and Water/Wastewater. This role is ideal for a licensed engineer who thrives in a technical leadership position, enjoys mentoring junior staff, and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams.Responsibilities:Serves as Structural Lead and Engineer of Record for projects across multiple market sectorsPerforms and oversees structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation structuresDirects and mentors Junior Engineers and Structural Designers, providing technical guidance and quality controlPrepares and reviews calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports for accuracy and constructabilityCoordinates with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project deliveryProvides technical guidance on project scope, budgets, and schedules for assignmentsConducts site visits and construction observations to support design intent and resolve field issuesCompletes assignments within budget and schedule while working with design teams involving multiple disciplinesProvides career development mentoring to early-career engineersAssists in client contact and communication, and attends client meetingsKeeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applicationsAssists with the preparation of proposalsStays current with applicable codes, standards, and best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiativesPerforms other duties as requiredEducation & Experience Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures from an ABET accredited universityMaster's degree strongly preferredStrong knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI)Proven track record of managing large-scale projects from concept to completionExcellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skillsActive Professional Engineer (PE) registrationStructural Engineer (SE) strongly preferredMinimum of 8 years of engineering experience, 10+ years preferredAbility to read, analyze, and interpret job-related manuals and documentsProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteExperience with Autodesk Revit is a plusExperience with Mission Critical/Data Center projects is a plusExperience with Water/Wastewater structures is a plusExperience with Healthcare projects is a plusWhy join us?Barge Design Solutions, Inc., is an engineering and architecture firm with diverse in-house multidisciplinary practice areas.
