We accomplish this through close interaction with our United States Air Force (USAF), United States Space Force (USSF), Office of the Under Secretary of War for Intelligence & Security (OUSW(I&S)), and Intelligence Community sponsors as well as with senior leadership in the Intelligence, Acquisition, and Warfighting communities. Our engineering analysis is informed by intelligence assessments of both adversarial kill chains and analysis of threats to US kill chains. We conduct engineering assessments of advanced and evolving threats, perform end-to-end effects chain analysis, develop engineering architectures for Intelligence applications, identify potential threat mitigation options, and perform experimentation of threat mitigation capabilities.Roles & Responsibilities:The Chief Engineer is accountable for ensuring the Department’s deliverables are of the highest quality, given the importance of the mission. The Chief Engineer of the Air & Space Intelligence Department works with stakeholders within the Department’s sponsor-base as well as across MITRE to align and shape activities that have shared equities with all government sponsors. The Chief Engineer is accountable for coordinating with other Intelligence Center Department/Division Chief Engineers to ensure the requisite level of quality standards are met on interconnected efforts while ensuring the relevance and impact of our products. The Chief Engineer’s responsibilities include:Technical QualityEnsure the strength of the Department’s work by shaping its content and bringing a perspective that reflects knowledge of the Department’s domain and technical capability areasProvide technical direction and oversight to the project and other Department effortsImplement the technical quality program across the analytical domain to ensure products and recommendations delivered to MITRE’s sponsors are independent, data-driven, technically sound, and properly reviewedProvide assessment of the FFRDC appropriateness of project activities within our work program and provide recommendations to ensure impactful use of FFRDC staff and resourcesCollaborate with Chief Engineers across MNS, MPS, and MTE to identify opportunities to define and improve technical quality norms across the CorporationTechnical ImpactLead key technical areas across the Department and manage the Department’s connections across MNS and MITRE in concert with the Department ManagerRepresent the Department’s requirements to the MITRE internal research and development community to assist with defining investments to address sponsors’ pressing operational challengesDrive technical contributions to impact missionProvide technical expertise and guidance at the project, task, and individual levelsStrategy DevelopmentPartner in developing, refining, and driving the Department’s contributions to the Intelligence Center strategy and help ensure our contributions satisfy its goals, objectives, and initiativesIdentify new areas where MITRE is either uniquely positioned, or has an opportunity to provide, innovative capabilities to existing and emerging sponsorsIdentify capability areas of focus for the Department that are aligned to current and future sponsor needsProvide continuous assessment of the Department’s capabilities to inform hiring activities and investment opportunitiesStaff DevelopmentDemonstrate and promote MITRE’s cultural attributes (speed, risk-taking, adaptability, collaboration, grace and respect)Mentor and develop staff and promote career path development and succession planningPromote a culture of collaboration across all staff experience levels to improve MITRE’s value to sponsorPartnerships and Initiatives Coordinate technical outreach to industry, academia, and other stakeholders, ensuring that best practices and technologies are brought to bear on products/deliverablesCollaborate with Chief Engineers across MITRE including MPS, MNS, and MTE to identify opportunities to align efforts and increase impact to sponsorsBasic Qualifications:Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experienceExtensive knowledge of USG Intelligence Community enterprise and effortsExtensive knowledge of MITRE’s organizational structure, work programs, and Intelligence Center effortsExperience developing strategies to increase the impact of deliverablesStrong writing and editing skills including demonstrated ability to articulate complex topics to sponsors and staffActive TS/SCI clearanceU.S. Citizenship requiredThis position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.Preferred Qualifications: Detailed understanding of the Intelligence Communities’ analytical domain Proven track record in work shaping to meet sponsor needsProven track record of partnering with external organizations, including with the government, academia, and industry to ensure capabilities and platforms are strategically leveraged in the execution of programsExperience in shaping the workforce and skill mix to develop the capabilities of the staff, to include high quality hires capable of work program impact and growthDemonstrated ability to work well in collaborative and dynamic environments that foster innovation in areas that provide enhanced capabilities to MITRE’s sponsors and that result in significant operational benefit to the NationThis requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):Top Secret/SCIThis requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s):Top Secret/SCISalary compensation range and midpoint:$190,000 - $237,500 - $285,000 AnnualWork Location Type:OnsiteCommitment to Non-DiscriminationAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to disability, status as a protected veteran or any other status protected by applicable federal, state, local or international law.MITRE intends to maintain a website that is fully accessible to all individuals.
