Salary: $100,000+bonus and full benefits (medical, dental, 401k, etc.)Project OverviewWe are seeking a consultant with strong experience in Ubuntu Linux administration and image engineering to support the development and productionization of a NVIDIA Jetson–based edge gateway. The system runs Ubuntu and supports a connected medical device platform with secure cloud connectivity via Azure IoT Edge.The focus of this role is on Ubuntu OS hardening, image creation, secure system configuration, and production deployment readiness for a regulated healthcare environment.Role SummaryThe Ubuntu Linux Admin / Image Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and hardening a production-grade Ubuntu-based system image for NVIDIA Jetson edge devices. This includes system security configuration, container runtime hardening, device provisioning workflows, and OTA update readiness.The role works closely with cloud and platform engineers to ensure secure integration with Azure IoT Edge and enterprise network infrastructure.Key ResponsibilitiesUbuntu Image Engineering & System BuildDesign and build a hardened Ubuntu-based OS image for NVIDIA Jetson devicesDefine and implement secure default system configurations for production deploymentEstablish repeatable image build and provisioning processes for manufacturingConfigure system services, boot settings, and runtime dependencies for edge deploymentLinux Security HardeningApply Ubuntu CIS hardening benchmarks and security best practicesConfigure secure SSH access, user management, and privilege controlsImplement firewall rules and host-based network restrictionsSecure USB and peripheral access policies for embedded environmentsValidate baseline system security posture for production readinessContainer & Edge Runtime ConfigurationHarden Docker runtime environment for edge workloadsSupport secure configuration of Microsoft Azure IoT Edge runtime on UbuntuEnsure container isolation and restricted system access policiesAssist in defining secure deployment patterns for edge modulesDevice Provisioning & Deployment SupportDevelop secure device provisioning workflows for production manufacturingConfigure certificate-based identity and trust setup (PKI integration)Support initial device setup scripts and configuration automationEnsure consistency across deployed devices through image-based provisioningOTA Update & Lifecycle ReadinessSupport implementation of OTA update mechanisms for OS and system componentsConfigure update-safe system partitioning and rollback considerationsAssist in integrating Ubuntu Pro / Landscape for fleet management (if applicable)Documentation & Compliance SupportDocument system image architecture, configuration, and hardening stepsProvide deployment and recovery documentation for manufacturing and operations teamsSupport security validation efforts through documentation of applied controlsQualificationsRequired ExperienceStrong experience with Ubuntu Linux system administration (preferably LTS versions)Experience building and maintaining custom Linux images for embedded or edge devicesKnowledge of Linux security hardening (CIS benchmarks or similar standards)Experience with Docker in production or embedded environmentsFamiliarity with device provisioning and system automationPreferred ExperienceExperience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded Linux platformsExposure to Azure IoT Edge or similar edge computing frameworksUnderstanding of PKI, certificates, and secure device authenticationExperience working in regulated environments (medical, industrial, or aerospace)Knowledge of OTA update systems and fleet management tools
