MEDICAL ASSISTANTJob Title: Medical AssistantDepartment: VariesReports to: Practice ManagerFLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)Job Summary:The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and healthcare providers in a medical office setting. This role is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing routine clinical tasks, and ensuring efficient daily office operations while maintaining patient confidentiality and a high standard of care.Duties/Responsibilities:Clinical DutiesPrepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and documenting chief complaintsAssist physicians with examinations, treatments, and minor proceduresAdminister injections and medications as directed by the physicianCollect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic lab tests, and ensure proper handlingPerform EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, and dressing changes as neededManage exam rooms by cleaning, stocking supplies, and maintaining equipmentEnsure compliance with infection control and safety protocolsAdministrative DutiesSchedule patient appointments and manage follow-up visitsVerify patient information, insurance, and referralsMaintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)Handle phone calls, patient inquiries, and prescription refill requestsCoordinate communication between patients, providers, and external facilitiesAssist with billing, coding, or prior authorizations as needed Required Skills/AbilitiesExcellent patient service and bedside mannerAbility to multitask in a fast-paced environmentStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)Team-oriented with a professional and positive attitude Education and Experience:RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalentCompletion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experienceEquivalent experience is at least 2 years working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare settingKnowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and office operationsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsCompletion of Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification within 6 months from the date of hire at which time the employee would be re-classified as a Medical Assistant II PreferredPrevious experience in a physician office or outpatient clinicExperience using electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems)
