Job DescriptionWLKY, the CBS affiliate in Louisville, KY, offers paid internships for college students. In order to apply for an internship at WLKY, please provide a cover letter with your application. The cover letter should include:Semester availability: SummerPosition preference: News Producer, News Reporter, Video-Journalist, Technical Production, Digital ProducerAvailable start and end datesDays and hours available to internInterns will spend 10-12 weeks shadowing and gaining on-the-job experience. You will be working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. You will report to the News Director.News ProducerYou will collaborate with news managers and other producers to determine what the important stories are daily that need to be covered.You will learn how to write copy for broadcast, research stories for details and accuracy, and develop the ability to complete projects quickly and efficiently.You will learn how to manage the execution of a live newscast in a control room, working closely with production staff.You will learn how to create graphic elements, including lower-third supers and full screen graphics.You must be able to work under tight deadlines and have an eye for accuracy.You will communicate with reporters to learn the details of their stories to determine the placement in the newscast and how to tease compelling elements.News ReporterYou must be able to work under tight deadlines and have an eye for accuracy.You will collaborate with reporters and photographers to learn the responsibilities of covering local news.You will learn how to write your own stories for both online and broadcastYou will learn to shoot standups and practice live shots.You will cover news and write stories for newscasts, under the guidance of producers & news managers.You will learn the technical workflow and skills needed to work as a local news reporterVideo-JournalistYou will learn how to gather video and interview content, and how to assemble stories for broadcastYou will learn how to make quick assessments regarding safety and situational concerns, while shooting video at various locations/events.You will collaborate with reporters with the goal of telling a visually compelling story.You will learn the importance of care and maintenance of equipment.You will learn the technical workflow and skills needed to work as a local video journalistPrior experience shooting video and/or editing on Adobe Premiere preferredDigital ProducerYou will collaborate with our digital news manager and other digital producers to determine what the important stories are daily that need to be covered.You will learn how to write copy for broadcast, research stories for details and accuracy, and develop the ability to complete projects quickly and efficiently.You will learn how to produce content in a content management system that supports and populates our digital platforms - web and social.You will communicate with reporters to learn the details of their stories, as well as make needed calls for information.You will learn the technical workflow and skills needed to work as a digital producer.Technical ProductionYou will observe and train on all aspects of behind-the-scenes newscast production: directing, technical directing, audio, camera operationYou will learn how all the roles work together to execute a live newscast from the control room.You will learn how to manage newscast execution software, graphics, camera shots and live in the field elements during a newscast.You will learn how communicate with a team during stressful situations to troubleshoot and navigate live issues to a positive outcome.Values in ActionAt Hearst Television we tell stories every day.
