Pharmacy Technician (Retail)

Pharmacy TechnicianThe Pharmacy Technician dispenses and compounds medications for patients by assisting in both retail and infusion pharmacy functions. Provide quality patient care and excellent customer service. Processes, enters and interprets physician orders, and compounds complex sterile (including cytotoxic) products. Follow departmental procedures with regard to inventory control, claims submission and other administrative tasks. Desired/Required Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma, some college preferred with an aptitude for mathematical calculation. Michigan Pharmacy Technician Licensure required Specific skills & abilities: Retail pharmacy and/or infusion pharmacy, claim reconciliation or accounting background helpful. Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Input customer and prescription data into pharmacy computer system. Create prescription labels, accurately retrieve medication for dispensing, done under supervision of pharmacist and in accordance with local and federal law. Ensure excellent customer service in Pharmacy department. Using aseptic technique, accurately prepares Compounded Sterile Products (CSP), including oncolytic medications under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pharmacist. Insures the safety of all patients and personnel by following CHCWM protocols and NIOSH/OSHA guidelines for preparation, delivery, and disposal of potentially cytotoxic agents. Inventory control and accurate handling of pharmaceuticals, packing slips and invoices. Handle telephone inquiries, and assist in resolving issues and complaints in a timely manner. Ensure claims are properly filed in the QS-1 NRx environment. Enter customer purchases into Point-of-Sale system. Enters physician orders correctly, checks patient profiles, allergies, duplicate therapies and drug interactions for review by a Pharmacist or other qualified healthcare professional. Precisely charges and credits patients, nursing units, and other facilities for medications dispensed from Pharmacy. Monitors and maintains drug (including controlled substances), research, indigent, and sample inventories and associated logs. Accept telephone prescriptions and refills from physician offices as well as written prescriptions from patients. Complete paperwork related to filling prescriptions. All other duties as assigned.
