Job Summary
This is a one year Contract Appointment position with an anticipated end date.Art Therapy Fellow provides comprehensive art therapy assessment and treatment interventions for pediatric patients, siblings, and families. Plans, develops, and implements a therapeutic art program for children, adolescents, and young adults and their families. Primary responsibilities include: conducting group and individual art therapy with inpatients; maintaining accurate and up-to-date charting; planning and implementing various activities to strengthen community and donor relations; and supervising Child Life/Art Therapy volunteers. Collaborates with and utilizes supervision from the Art Therapist for ongoing professional development as needed. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. Department Description
At UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, child life specialists and creative arts therapists strive to create positive health care experiences for children, youths and families. Families often have questions about how to make sure their kids feel ready for a procedure or a stay in the hospital. The mission of our Child Life Services department is to help children and other family members prepare for and cope with these experiences. Our team of certified child life specialists, music therapists, art therapists, educators and parent liaisons are trained in child and family development, and understand the specific needs of children, teens and families in the hospital. Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Art Therapy or related field - completed or actively working toward completionArt therapy candidate working towards Art Therapy registration with the American Art Therapy AssociationExperience working with children in individual and group-based interventions (2 years)Demonstrates skills, knowledge and ability in developmentally and age appropriate art therapy interventionsDemonstrates ability to assess individual patients' developmental level, general medical condition, psych-social needs and capabilitiesProvides patients with opportunities for expressing their individual thoughts and feelings and provide support as part of patients' therapeutic support systemDemonstrates compassion and understanding in order to build a relationship of rapport and trust with patients and their familiesUnderstand the visual language in art work, which may be used in assessmentAbility to communicate pertinent information and concerns, and coordinate goals with medical staff for optimum health outcomesDemonstrates ability to assess family functioning and facilitate coping with child's hospitalization.Demonstrates ability to plan and facilitate art therapy groupsDemonstrates skills in oral and written communication that will allow preparation of medical record documentation, oral presentation, and conference presentations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with children in medical settingExperience in multiple mediaExperience in research activities related to Art Therapy
License/Certification
Must be working towards registration as art therapist with the American Art Therapy Association with all other requirements fulfilled
