Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Technology Scout. This position will be located remotely, ideally in Pheonix, AZ or Austin, TX. Other locations also considered. Summary: The Technology Scout serves as an architect of external innovation, identifying breakthrough technologies and new business opportunities through global scouting across academia, startups, and adjacent industries. It builds and prioritizes technology opportunity pipelines and shapes strategic partnerships, joint ventures, licensing, and IP strategy as a principal technical evaluator. The role provides leaders with forward-looking technology intelligence, including scenario planning, risk assessments, and analyses of disruptive forces to guide long-term investment decisions. Acting as a visible technical ambassador and internal catalyst, it represents the company externally while enabling R&D teams and leaders to act early on high-impact external opportunities. Responsibilities: Serve as the company’s primary architect of external innovation strategy, identifying breakthrough technologies, platforms, and research directions that can unlock step-change growth or enable new business models. Lead global scouting initiatives by evaluating emerging technologies across academia, startup ecosystems, venture networks, accelerators, national labs, government programs, and adjacent industries. Build sophisticated technology opportunity pipelines, prioritizing targets based on technical readiness, alignment to strategic objectives, market potential, and competitive advantage. Drive the identification and pursuit of strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and licensing deals—acting as the company’s principal technical evaluator and influencer during early negotiations. Explore nontraditional markets where the company’s science, engineering, or manufacturing capabilities could enable game-changing applications, creating white-space strategy proposals. Provide senior leaders with forward-looking technology intelligence including scenario planning, technology risk assessments, and maps of disruptive forces shaping the next decade. Represent the company as a high-profile technical ambassador at global events, industry consortia, scientific conferences, innovation councils, and customer or supplier executive meetings. Shape the company’s long-term IP strategy through proactive identification of whitespace, emerging threats, and high-value patents necessary to secure future positions. Lead the early conceptualization of externally derived projects, helping R&D teams integrate new technologies and navigate technical, supply chain, and regulatory scaling challenges. Build and sustain senior-level relationships with key innovation stakeholders, including CEOs, CTOs, principal investigators, and venture investors, cultivating long-term collaborative pathways. Produce visionary internal reports, landscape analyses, and opportunity forecasts that influence capital allocation, capability-building strategy, and company-level technology investments. Serve as an internal catalyst for strategic thinking, helping leaders recognize external signals and act before competitors in fast-moving technology spaces. Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field and 18+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree and 16+ years of relevant experience or PhD and 12+ years of relevant experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience. Missouri salary range for this role is between $126,700 and $177,300 annually. Texas salary range for this role is between $152,000 and $182,400 annually.
