Tactical Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer, MS

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:* The Tactical Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer is an embedded healthcare professional serving the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office (CPSO). In addition to providing high-quality injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and wellness programming for tactical athletes and CPSO personnel, this role functions as a Healthcare Navigator and System Liaison for Lake Charles Memorial Health System (LCMH).The Athletic Trainer will identify opportunities to guide CPSO employees into appropriate LCMH services, coordinate care pathways, and collaborate with LCMH business development, marketing, and the employed medical group to strengthen relationships, streamline access, and support population-health initiatives. This position blends clinical expertise with strategic outreach, relationship management, and proactive engagement across the LCMH enterprise.SUPERVISION: reports directly to the Director, Louisiana Sports Medicine Alliance, with dotted-line collaboration to LCMH Business Development leadership.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:* 1. Clinical Care & Tactical Athlete SupportProvide on-site evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for CPSO personnel.Demonstrate proper taping, bracing, strapping, and fitting of protective equipment.Develop and implement performance, conditioning, and injury-prevention programs tailored to tactical athletes.Carry out all prescribed treatments and physician recommendations.Maintain accurate documentation of encounters, progress notes, and referrals.Communicate effectively with CPSO leadership regarding injury status, return-to-duty considerations, and wellness initiatives.Work assigned clinical hours under the supervision of the program director.2. Healthcare System NavigationServe as a front-line navigator for CPSO employees, helping them access appropriate LCMH services including primary care, orthopedics, imaging, therapy, occupational health, behavioral health, and specialty care.Identify opportunities to streamline care pathways and reduce fragmentation by directing employees to LCMH providers and facilities.Assist employees in understanding next steps in care, scheduling needs, and available LCMH resources.Track referral patterns and identify gaps or opportunities for improved engagement with LCMH services.Maintain a working knowledge of LCMH service lines, clinic locations, provider availability, and employer-focused programs.3. Business Development & Relationship ManagementAct as an LCMH ambassador within CPSO, strengthening relationships and building trust with leadership, supervisors, and staff.Collaborate with LCMH Business Development and Marketing teams to identify opportunities for service expansion, wellness programming, and targeted outreach.Support employer-based initiatives such as health fairs, screenings, educational sessions, and injury-prevention campaigns.Provide feedback to LCMH leadership on trends, needs, and opportunities observed within CPSO.Participate in strategic planning discussions related to employer partnerships and population health.4. Wellness, Education & PreventionDevelop and deliver wellness initiatives focused on injury prevention, fitness, nutrition, stress management, and overall health optimization for CPSO personnel.Conduct group training sessions, workshops, and educational programs.Promote a culture of health, safety, and readiness across all CPSO divisions.The above statements are only meant to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those stated in this description.EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEMasters degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited institution.NATA Board of Certification (BOC).Current Louisiana Athletic Trainer License.CPR certification.12 years of experience in athletic training or tactical/occupational health preferred.Valid drivers license.Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills.Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.Demonstrated emotional maturity, adaptability, and leadership capability.Ability to work independently within a partner organization while maintaining alignment with LCMH goals.Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentAbility to assist or transfer individuals of varying sizes.Ability to carry equipment up to 50 pounds.Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and navigate large facilities or outdoor environments.Must be able to communicate clearly and provide direction to personnel.Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
