EVSE Systems & Integration Engineer
We are seeking a EVSE Systems & Integration Engineer to lead the technical evaluation, integration,validation, onboarding, and deployment of AC and DC electric vehicle charging equipment.This role will serve as a key technical resource for EV charging systems across the complete chargerlifecycle—from technical specifications and feature evaluation through protocol integration, networking,compliance and conformance testing, installation support, commissioning, and production operations.The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AC Level 2 and DC fast charging systems, EVcharging communication protocols, charger networking, backend/CSMS integration, interoperability testing,and field deployment.The candidate will work directly with the executive leadership and collaborate across EVSE Product,Technology, Software Development, Hardware Integration, and QA.This is a cross-functional engineering role requiring close collaboration with charger manufacturers, softwareengineering teams, network engineers, electrical and power engineers, field installation teams, certificationorganizations, and operations teams.Key ResponsibilitiesEVSE Technical Evaluation and Specifications Develop and maintain technical requirements and specifications for AC and DC EV charging equipment. Evaluate EVSE hardware, firmware, capabilities, features, interfaces, and supported protocols. Perform technical assessments of charger manufacturers and individual charger models. Review charger electrical, communication, environmental, mechanical, networking, and operationalspecifications. Define minimum technical requirements for onboarding new EVSE vendors and charger models. Evaluate charger capabilities against product, operational, regulatory, and customer requirements. Participate in charger selection, qualification, and technical approval processes.EV Charging Protocols and CSMS Integration Lead integration of EV chargers with Charging Station Management Systems (CSMS). Configure, validate, and troubleshoot charger communication using standards such as:o OCPP 1.6J, 2.0.1, OCPP 2.1o OCPI 2.1.1, 2.2.1 and 2.30o ISO 15118 Validate charger behavior for registration, authorization, transactions, meter values, status notifications,smart charging, firmware management, diagnostics, remote commands, and other supported functions. Analyze protocol traces, charger logs, backend logs, and network traffic to identify interoperability andintegration issues. Work with charger OEMs to resolve protocol implementation differences and non-conformant behavior. Maintain charger-specific integration profiles, configuration requirements, and known interoperabilityconstraints.Communications and Networking Define and validate network connectivity requirements for EV charging equipment. Support charger connectivity using: Cellular/LTE/5G, Wi-Fi, Ethernet Troubleshoot TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, NAT, firewall, proxy, VPN, and connectivity-related issues. Support secure communications using TLS and mutual TLS where required. Assist with digital certificates, certificate provisioning, certificate renewal, trust chains, and PKI-relatedcharger configuration. Validate reliable charger-to-CSMS connectivity under production network conditions. Work with network and cybersecurity teams to develop secure EVSE connectivity architectures.Interoperability, Compliance and Conformance Testing Develop and execute EVSE qualification and acceptance test plans. Perform functional, integration, interoperability, regression, and conformance testing. Validate charger behavior against applicable OCPP specifications and organizational implementationrequirements. Support ISO 15118 interoperability and Plug & Charge testing where applicable. Identify deviations from protocol specifications and document vendor-specific and charger-specificbehaviors. Coordinate testing with EVSE manufacturers, test laboratories, certification organizations, and technologypartners. Review applicable standards and regulatory requirements including UL, CSA, IEC, NEC, FCC, and otherrelevant standards based on deployment geography. Maintain compliance documentation, test evidence, issue tracking, and certification records.Charger Onboarding and Qualification Own or support the technical onboarding process for new EVSE manufacturers and charger models. Develop standardized charger onboarding procedures and certification criteria. Establish and diligently document the required charger firmware versions, configuration parameters,security settings, network settings, and CSMS configuration. Conduct lab testing prior to approving charger models for production deployment. Define production readiness and acceptance criteria. Maintain an approved EVSE hardware and firmware compatibility matrix. Coordinate resolution of defects discovered during charger qualification.Installation and Commissioning Support Review EVSE installation requirements and technical prerequisites. Assist deployment teams with site readiness and charger configuration requirements. Provide technical guidance during charger installation, startup, and commissioning. Validate communication between chargers and the CSMS following installation. Perform or support commissioning tests including:o Charger connectivityo Connector availabilityo Authorizationo Charging session initiation and terminationo Meteringo Remote commandso Fault reportingo Network recoveryo Backend communication Develop installation and commissioning checklists and procedures. Support troubleshooting of field installation and commissioning issues.Troubleshooting and Production Support Serve as a technical escalation point for complex charger-related issues. Perform root-cause analysis for charger, protocol, communication, networking, and interoperabilityfailures. Analyze charger logs, OCPP messages, backend telemetry, network captures, and system events. Coordinate issue resolution between internal engineering teams and EVSE manufacturers. Identify recurring charger issues and recommend firmware, configuration, software, or operationalimprovements. Support firmware upgrades and evaluate new EVSE firmware releases before production deployment. Maintain technical knowledge bases, troubleshooting guides, and known-issue documentation.Vendor and Cross-Functional Coordination Act as a technical interface with EVSE manufacturers and technology vendors. Conduct technical reviews with charger OEM engineering teams. Provide engineering input into product roadmaps and charger feature development.Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering,Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related engineering discipline. Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, with meaningful experience involving EV chargingsystems, EVSE, industrial equipment, connected devices, or similar networked systems. Hands-on experience with AC and/or DC EV charging equipment. Strong understanding of EVSE architecture, charger operation, and charging workflows. Practical knowledge of OCPP, preferably OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1. Strong understanding of IP networking and connected-device communications. Experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewall, cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, JSON, REST APIs, and secure communications. Experience performing system integration, interoperability, validation, or conformance testing. Ability to analyze technical logs, protocol traces, and network traffic. Experience working with hardware and software engineering teams to diagnose complex system-levelproblems. Ability to troubleshoot across hardware, firmware, networking, protocols, and backend software Strong attention to detail. Strong technical documentation discipline and communication skills. Ability to work directly with equipment manufacturers and external technology partners. Ability to manage multiple charger vendors, models, firmware versions, and integration workstreams.
