Generator Repair Technician
Position Description Summary:
At Power Systems Plus we are looking for a Generator Repair Technician / Mechanic to participate in the growth of our company. You as a Technician will perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on generators throughout Oregon, requiring our technicians to drive to customer locations, interact with the customer in a professional and courteous manner, and fill out all necessary paperwork online and on paper indicating the performance of the generator.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform field inspections of generators. Determine generator condition by performing inspections, diagnostic, testing, and troubleshooting.
Diagnose and repair problems within the electrical and mechanical systems. Perform load bank tests and routine services.
Complete generator semi and annual services while inspecting for potential failing components.
Troubleshoot & repair AC and DC controls and equipment such as controllers, voltage regulators, battery chargers, block heaters, and automatic transfer switches etc.
Troubleshoot & repair diesel and gaseous engines.
Load test batteries, check, and repair charging systems.
Verify generator performance by conducting performance tests, making different adjustments to the controls or systems as required.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of service and repairs performed.
Keep and maintain your own inventory of tools and equipment properly.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifying Skills:
Generators, diesel and gaseous engines, controls, and systems.
Understand the operation of transfer switches and switch gear.
AC 110-690 VAC and DC systems fundamentals and work practices.
Mechanical & electronic governors.
Understand and interpret wiring diagrams, motors, and transformers.
Use diagnostic software to identify and repair failed equipment.
Work safely around all equipment and electrical components.
Qualify new and used parts upon receiving.
Complete jobs assigned with little to no supervision.
Provide superior customer service including both verbal and written communications.
Must work /communicate well with internal team, electricians, and contractors.
Participate in educational opportunities/training and reading technical and regulation publications.
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely.
Basic computer skills (MS Office, emails, typing, etc.)
Education and Experience Requirements:
Completion of a Diesel or Gasoline mechanic program. Associate degree (AA) from a credited college or technical school preferred.
Experience working as a generator technician would be a plus but not necessary.
Other Requirements:
Own and maintain a proper inventory of tools for the position.
Maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the employer's insurance policy.
Ability to travel by vehicle 85% of the time with occasional overnight travel.
Ability to work overtime as needed.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to see, hear, talk, and touch.
Ability to perform repetitive motion.
Ability to travel by vehicle.
Ability to work in a fast-paced/high pressure environment.
