Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor (PT)
Surry Community College is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator instructor to deliver classroom and hands-on instruction to adult learners enrolled in workforce training programs. This position focuses on teaching safe and effective operation of heavy equipment and preparing students for employment in the construction industry.Flexible schedule to include day, afternoon, evening, or weekend classes based on program needs.This role is well-suited for retired or semi-retired heavy equipment operators who are interested in sharing their professional experience, mentoring students, and contributing to helping train the future workforce.This position supports short-term workforce training designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in construction and related fields.Part-time, non-benefited positionInstructional support and orientation providedTeaching experience not requiredEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide instruction in heavy equipment operation (e.g., dozers, excavators, dump truck)Teach construction safety, OSHA standards, and jobsite practicesDemonstrate basic equipment maintenance and inspectionPromote a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environmentGeneral QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and must meet the requirements listed below that represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to be successful.
