Job Type: Full-time, Twelve (12) months (233 days) per year according to PPSB Salary Range: $35,947-$54,948 Ad Valorem - 2.40 parish property (ad valorem) tax mills are dedicated to employee salaries. The annual receipts from this tax are distributed to employees twice a year, one-half in January and one-half in June. The amount of each employee's supplement is the employee's salary multiplied by the annual percentage (computed each year based on actual tax revenues) Job Goal To ensure the school system's facilities are safe, functional and conducive to learning by performing high-quality maintenance. The Facilities Tech will work collaboratively with the maintenance team and school administrators to promptly address maintenance issues, execute preventive maintenance programs and contribute to the continuous improvement of the school environment. Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills and/or experience) Required High school diploma or GED. Valid Louisiana driver's license. Must pass and is subject to drug tests as required by federal and state law and the School Board's policies regarding drug testing, operating school-owned vehicles and all applicable policies. Must complete and pass a physical examination performed by a duly licensed physician. Familiarity with the safe use of power tools, hand tools and possibly forklifts or other machinery. Comfort reading and following technical drawings or manuals. Ability to diagnose and repair machinery or equipment malfunctions. Understanding of preventive maintenance schedules and procedures. Familiarity with basic electrical systems (wiring, fuses, circuit breakers). Safe troubleshooting of electrical issues in accordance with local / national codes. Ability to handle basic to moderate plumbing tasks (fixing leaks, installing fixtures, unclogging drains). Knowledge of installing, repairing or maintaining heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in troubleshooting mechanical issues. Basic computer skills for maintaining records and work orders. Preferred Associate's degree from an accredited institution. Certification or coursework in areas like HVAC, plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems. Refrigeration experience and certifications. Physical Demands This role operates in an indoor, climate-controlled environment as well as outdoors, with regular exposure to moderate temperature variations. The usual methods of performing job functions require moderate to heavy lifting (fifty [50] pounds or greater), carrying, pushing and pulling with frequent engagement in activities such as standing, walking and sitting. Additional physical requirements include ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often throughout the workday; frequent movement across school grounds, such as walking up and down stairs, in classrooms and through hallways; prolonged periods of standing; ability to push or pull equipment, such as carts or dollies loaded with supplies; occasional pushing or pulling of furniture or heavy objects; ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements; manual dexterity for various responsibilities; frequent bending, stooping and kneeling; ability to climb ladders and/or scaffolding; ability to crawl in confined spaces; ability to operate machinery, equipment and tools; frequent reaching; ability to drive within or outside of the district to various schools, meetings and events; ability to navigate different sites and locations; ability to work in varying conditions, such as inclement weather, wet or slippery floors and/or exposure to cleaning chemicals; and ability to handle changes in temperature and noise levels.
