Today, more than 30,000 families and individuals call an Epcon community “home,” which makes Epcon one of the top lifestyle-rich home developers in the country year after year.Your Opportunity as Assistant ControllerThe Controller will oversee accounting activities and functions for all Epcon Communities corporate departments, its six regional divisions, as well as the franchising business. This position has responsibility for protecting company assets, improving business processes and ensuring financial reporting is consistent with GAAP and Epcon policies and procedures. Responsibilities:Oversee financial operations including construction accounting, payroll, and accounts payable.Produce monthly financial statements for all corporate departments, regional divisions and the franchising business, including quarterly reporting packages to leadership. Coordinate and work with external accounting firm on audits and tax returns. Lead the annual budget process to manage and review submissions and adherence to deadlines. Work directly with Regional Presidents to provide an understanding of the monthly budget to actual variance analysis and reporting.Complete month end reconciliations and improve the timeliness of the month end process.Assist with managing the company’s insurance policy, including claims, premiums and the annual renewals and audits; ensure that the company’s assets are adequately insured.Supervises staff including an Accounting Manager, Senior and Staff Accountants and a dotted line to Accounts Payable Specialists; provides training and coaching, delegates work and promotes a positive work environment. Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency in accounting procedures.Implement and maintain internal controls over accounting and accounts payable processes to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Assist in managing ad hoc requests and day-to-day questions from key stakeholders.Education & Experience:B.S. in Accounting required and a CPA preferred.10-years accounting experience with at least 3-years in a Controller or similar position.Experience working for a residential homebuilder or in the construction industry preferred. Experience supervising staff and administering company HR policies; some knowledge of employment laws.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, budgeting, payroll and accounts payableAdvanced proficiency in Excel and experience with FP&A/accounting systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracyStrong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentDisplays cooperation and ability to work as part of a team.Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organizationStrong customer service mindset with both internal and external stakeholdersAbility to assimilate, analyze, synthesize, integrate concepts and problem solve to formulate, recommend and carry out accounting functions.Ability to track, retain, retrieve and apply information (knowledge, facts, decisions etc.) to manage and solve complex issues.What We OfferEpcon Communities offers a competitive base salary and an opportunity to earn a generous bonus.
