Linux Security System Administrator

A Linux Security System Administrator ensures the integrity and security of high-performance computing Linux environments. Responsibilities include managing system hardening, vulnerability assessments, implementing security policies, managing container orchestration, and automating security tasks through scripting, typically within a research-driven, DevOps-focused infrastructure, Kubernetes and other automation and SRE.Core ResponsibilitiesLinux Security Administration: Implementing and maintaining security patches, system hardening (SELinux, Kali, CIS benchmarks), and user access controls across large-scale Linux systems.Vulnerability Management: Conducting regular scans, threat assessment, and remediation of security vulnerabilities to secure research infrastructure.Container Security: Managing security for container orchestration platforms (like Kubernetes or Docker) in DevOps environments.Automation & Scripting: Writing scripts (Python, Bash, Perl) to automate security compliance, configuration management, and monitoring tasks.Policy Enforcement: Ensuring compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) cybersecurity requirements and institutional security policies.Required QualificationsExperience: Extensive experience with Linux system administration, particularly RHEL or CentOS.Security Knowledge: Strong understanding of network security, firewalls, and security protocols (SSH, SSL/TLS, Kerberos). Splunk, Nessus, Crowd Strike Falcon, Kali Linux, Zeek, (Burp Suite OR Security Onion OR nMAP), Certificate lifecycle automation (ACME).Heavy focus on DevSecOps specifically github enterprise and gitops security.Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent experience.CompensationMarket rate for right person.J-18808-Ljbffr
