Sr. Payroll Specialist

Sr. Payroll SpecialistThe Senior Payroll Specialist is a hands-on role responsible for processing and managing end-to-end payroll operations. This individual ensures accurate, compliant, and timely payroll execution across a complex, multi-state environment. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to manage complex payroll scenarios, and experience with payroll systems (UKG required). This position partners closely with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to maintain data integrity and support efficient, compliant payroll processes. Key Responsibilities Own and execute full-cycle payroll processing for multi-state, multi-entity organizations Review, validate, and process payroll data, ensuring accuracy prior to final submission Maintain and update payroll system configurations, including earnings, deductions, and tax settings Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and wage laws Perform payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting to ensure accuracy and alignment with the general ledger Handle complex payroll transactions, including bonuses, commissions, and retroactive adjustments Administer garnishments, benefits deductions, and other payroll-related withholdings Perform benefits billing and payroll reconciliations, ensuring alignment between payroll, vendors, and internal records Support benefit pay processing and resolve discrepancies related to benefits deductions and billing Serve as a key point of contact for payroll-related questions and issues, providing timely resolution Collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to ensure accurate data flow and smooth payroll operations Support HRIS and payroll system integrations, including troubleshooting data or system issues Assist with system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements Prepare and file payroll tax reports, including quarterly filings and year-end forms (W-2s) Document payroll processes and provide cross-training as needed Required Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience in a multi-state environment Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements Experience managing payroll for mid-size to large employee populations Experience with payroll systems (UKG experience required) Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data reconciliation) High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments Preferred Qualifications Experience with UKG (UKG Pro, UKG Ready, or Workforce Central) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation Experience with payroll system implementations or migrations Familiarity with HRIS integrations, benefits administration, and data workflows Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field Leadership & Impact Serve as a trusted payroll expert and go-to resource for internal teams Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance Strengthen cross-functional collaboration between Payroll, HR, Finance, and Benefits Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
