Collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary treatment team. The Staff Physical Therapist reports to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Evaluation & Treatment PlanningReviews requisitions for Physical TherapyInterviews patients and evaluates their physical condition and needsDevelops customized corrective exercise and treatment programsTherapeutic InterventionDetermines appropriate equipment use, application, and body positioningAdministers treatments including exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and tractionEducates patients on program components and proper use of assistive devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prostheticsAdjusts treatment plans based on patient progressConsults with physicians as needed regarding treatment alternativesDocumentation & CommunicationCompletes required documentation including evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summariesCommunicates effectively with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated careTeam Support & LeadershipProvides direction to support staff involved in patient careAssumes responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absenceQuality, Safety & ComplianceAdheres to departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiativesMaintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staffFollows all hospital safety protocols, including fire safety and disaster proceduresUses equipment safely and ensures proper working conditionComplies with Universal Precautions and uses required protective equipmentReports unsafe conditions and participates in safety programsOperational SupportAssists with care and maintenance of department equipment and suppliesParticipates in meetings and committees as requiredAssists with patient transport when neededProfessional DevelopmentEngages in ongoing education, workshops, and professional development opportunitiesCompletes all mandatory annual trainingPatient-Centered CareProvides age-appropriate care across all populations: neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatricDelivers compassionate, attentive care focused on both physical and psychological patient needsMaintains clear communication to ensure a secure and positive patient experienceEducation RequirementsMust be licensed, or eligible for licensure, to practice Physical Therapy in New York State at time of hireExperienceHospital experience preferredCertificationsBasic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hirePhysical DemandsThis role requires physical activity, including lifting, pushing, and pulling.
