POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Principal, Tax will contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the finance department by executing tasks with a strong attention to detail. This role will utilize strong US, state and local tax accounting knowledge, time management skills and effective problem solving to ensure success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for accurate/timely preparation & filing of federal and multi-state jurisdiction quarterly and annual tax returns, including payment of and accounting for all related tax liabilities and maintenance of related tax records.
Build and manage relationships with paid preparers.
Resolve taxing jurisdictions notices timely and favorably.
Maintain tax calendar.
Filing and records retention
Other duties as assigned by the management
Responsible for informing other finance team members for tax journal entries
Responsible for preparing account reconciliations to ensure financial data accurately reflects the financial position of the company
Compile, adjust and evaluate various accruals to ensure their accuracy
Assist with month-end close to ensure the accuracy of financial results
Identify and implement efficiencies in the tax preparation process.
Prepare relevant documents and tax data for annual audits and work with external auditors to ensure all tax audit requirements are met and tax audit issues are resolved.
Research tax legislation and regulation updates
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Knowledge of partnership/fund tax and real estate credit/mortgage servicing rights
Knowledge of Original Issued Discount (OID) and Notional Principal Contract (NPC)
Other accounting concepts with experience in their application
Detail oriented, ability to show initiative and take responsibility
Effective time management skills
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
Effective problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to work in a sensitive environment with minimal supervision

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree required (Preferably in Finance / Accounting)
Minimum 3~5 years’ experience in a partnership/fund tax environment or related field as relates to real estate credit or mortgage servicing rights
Experience in mortgage related products strongly preferred
