Shasta Union High School DistrictSHASTA UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT Job DescriptionFOOD NUTRITION SPECIALISTDEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director of Nutrition Services, assists in the operation of the district's food services program. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:Under supervision, is responsible for preparing, cooking, baking, selling and servicing a variety of food; Makes deliveries of food (in various stages of preparation) to other kitchens; Requisitions foods from central production kitchen as assigned; Assists in maintaining central production kitchen food service inventory; Assists in record keeping for food deliveries; Keeps food shelves stocked and goods in an orderly condition; Operates food services van and sees that the vehicle is regularly serviced and maintained; Reports any unsafe conditions; Assists in cleaning the dining room tables and kitchen after meals; Assists in all phases of the kitchen operation to which assigned; Serves students/customers with friendly attitude; Supervises student helpers in absence of kitchen manager; Picks up deposits from assigned schools and delivers to county office; Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of modern food services equipment, kitchen cleaning materials, preparation, serving and storage of food stuffs, modern sanitation requirements and feeding large groups Ability to exercise care and consideration in observing sanitation requirements Ability to follow menus, prepare tasteful food, and present it professionally and attractively Ability to judge the quantity requirements and prepare it with a minimum of waste Ability to work cooperatively with principals, teachers, students and other personnel Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to recognize unsafe conditions Ability to work independently Ability to drive a vehicle safely over a variety of normal and hazardous road conditions Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting up to forty (40) pounds Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships Ability to learn computers and related technology Must be bondable PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. One year of experience in a school food service program, or two years paid experience in similar work or course work from a college or trade school involving preparation of large quantities of food and nutrition.
