Senior Propane Safety Specialist

OverviewIt is the Senior Specialist's responsibility to ensure that relevant company employees strictly adhere to the company policies and best practice methods developed over the years which are designed to make our operations safer. This position leads the company's propane safety efforts by conducting propane plant and customer records inspections, providing on-the-job training to propane operation's employees, manages the certified employee training program (CETP) for all company propane operations. This position is also responsible for fleet safety training in accordance with DOT regulations and best practices.MFA Oil Company is an Equal Opportunity/Drug-Free Employer.ResponsibilitiesConduct annual propane safety meetings and prepares transportation safety materials for monthly propane safety meetings and transportation safety bulletinsAssist new driver hires with completing required DOT/company paperworkProvide on-the-job training to bulk and propane operations employeesConduct propane and bulk plant safety inspections to include inspection of completed safety and service forms in customer files. Works with marketing department on safety incentive programsConduct propane bottle filling/dispenser trainingOversee propane related incidents reported to home office to determine cause & origin and facts-of-lossServe as a technical source of information for propane operations employees in the fieldPerform 'behind the wheel' coaching & evaluation drives with all new drivers and with tenured drivers, as needed, to teach & evaluate safe driving & handling of vehicles utilizing Smith System Defensive Driving Training skillsAssure drivers are capable of performing required 'safety-sensitive' duties: pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections, loading/unloading cargo tank vehicles, all emergency procedures, compliance with DOT regulations & company policyMonitor Compliance, Safety, Accountability scorecards monthlyResponsible for vehicle accident investigation: review, documentation, and training for each reported incidentResponsible for motorist concerns: investigate, document, and follow upSpot check equipment for potential safety defects or DOT violationsMonitor driver daily inspections to assure compliance to regulationsReview all cargo tank & vehicle inspection reportsWork with Manager of Truck Service to make certain correct specification of equipment is being used in purchasing equipmentPresent a positive image of MFA Oil Company to the community and be knowledgeable about all products and services offered by companyAll MFA Oil employees are expected to know and adhere to company and position specific policies and procedures. While this job description contains the primary duties of the position, employees may be expected to perform other duties as assignedJob RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalentAt least three years of experience in transportation or related fieldKnowledge of company operations and productsThis position requires an extensive level of field experience with propane operationsThe position requires an individual to understand and have the abilities to demonstrate to others how to properly perform their respective jobs safely and in the best interest of our customers and the companyAbility to travel overnight frequently to trainings, to train other personnel, and attend educational sessionsAbility and willingness to work with hazardous materialsAbility and willingness to obtain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker, HAZMAT, and air brake endorsements within the first 90 days of employment, and maintain all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements per the vehicle requirementsAbility to pass in person training and MFA Oil Company Record of Road test requiring operation of both manual and automatic transmission vehicles within 90 days of employmentAbility to safely operate automatic and manual transmission vehicles in a variety of weather and road conditionsAbility and willingness to become propane (CETP) certified as determined by the state(s) servedMust be able to continually evaluate changes in regulations and safety requirements relating to DOT regulations, HM regulations, and possibly other regulatory agenciesAbility to move equipment and position self to move and retrieve products and supplies from shelves, under counters or stacks of inventory weighing up to 100 poundsVision, hearing, speech and ability to detect odorsDevelopment of good relations with state & national propane gas associationsExcellent verbal skills, to effectively present to individuals, as well as small and large groupsFamiliarity with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & OutlookStrong leadership with positive coaching and development skillsDemonstrated ability to meet and manage multiple deadlinesAbility to follow all safety requirements and supervisor instructionsValid driver's licenseAbility to exchange accurate information with MFA Oil Company customers in EnglishLegal authorization to work in the United States of America21 years of age or olderAbility to meet company requirements including successful pre-employment drug screening, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), criminal background check, and MFA Oil Company road testPreferred SkillsAbility to work both independently and in a team environmentAbility to work under timelines and pressureAbility to work at a fast pacePresentation abilities
