This in-office role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment and enjoys partnering closely with operations to drive financial performance and improve business processes.The Division Controller plays a critical role in maintaining accurate job cost reporting, supporting monthly close activities, managing receivables, and partnering closely with project managers and operations leadership. In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this role will help identify opportunities for process improvement, strengthen financial controls, and support operational decision-making as the business continues to grow.This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys working directly with the business, improving processes, and helping teams scale effectively in a fast-growing company. The ideal candidate is comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also thinking strategically about how to improve systems, reporting, and workflows.The Division Controller will also serve as a strategic financial leader within the division, helping guide financial decision-making, improve operational processes, and support the continued growth of the business.Familiarity with the California construction industry and public works projects is required.Key ResponsibilitiesJob Cost and Financial ReportingReview job cost reports with Project Managers to ensure accuracy and proper cost coding by job and phaseMaintain detailed knowledge of assigned jobs including gross profit, margin trends, over/under billings, and pending change ordersPartner with operations teams to proactively identify cost issues and improve financial visibility across projectsSupport leadership with financial insights that help improve project performance and operational decision-makingHelp refine reporting processes to improve clarity, accuracy, and timeliness of project financial dataReceivables and Cash Flow ManagementMonitor accounts receivable aging and identify at-risk accountsPartner with Project Managers to improve billing accuracy and collection timelinesCoordinate with subcontractors and clients to resolve billing and payment issuesDocument collection efforts and escalate cash flow risks when necessaryAccounting Operations and CloseEnter invoices, accruals, and journal entries accurately and on timeSupport monthly close activities to ensure deadlines are met and financial results are accurateIdentify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and strengthen financial processes as the business scalesProcess petty cash checks for apprentices and coordinate posting with accountingPay state and union training fundsCompliance and Public Works SupportSupport accounting and reporting requirements for California public works projectsHandle OCIP and UCIP workers compensation reportingEnsure compliance documentation is complete prior to payment processingEmail subcontractors based on invoices and request outstanding compliance documentation required for payment releaseProcess Improvement and Operational SupportIdentify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and internal controlsHelp implement improvements that increase efficiency and support the needs of a growing organizationAct as a resource to operations teams to ensure financial processes support project execution and profitabilityWhat We’re Looking For5+ years of hands-on accounting experience in constructionStrong knowledge of job cost accounting, journal entries, and monthly closeNetSuite Experience RequiredProficiency with Excel and ERP systemsDetail-oriented and accountableAbility to work cross-functionally with operations teams in a fast-paced environmentComfortable balancing hands-on execution with process improvement and operational supportWhat We OfferBe part of a growing company with real impact on the ground floorWork closely with operations and finance leadershipStrong benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTOCompetitive pay (based on experience)Collaborative cultureThis is a full-time, in-office role (5 days a week).Vortex Companies, LLC and all subsidiaries is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against otherwise qualified applicants on the basis of race, color, creed, ancestry, religion, orientation, age, sex, marital status, national origin, genetic information, or veteran status.The Pay Range For This Role Is150,000 - 170,000 USD per year (Services- Sancon)
