Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.Job SummaryPharmacy Technician duties in the inpatient area may include:Enter medication orders into patient profilesFill and deliver unit dose carts, make other deliveriesAssist with use of automated unit dose dispensing machine (RobotRx)Prepare sterile products, injections and IV chemotherapyRetrieve medication orders from patient unitsStock medications shelves, return excess stock to inventoryFill Omnicell cabinets on nursing unitsPrepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticalsCorrectly distribute controlled substancesPrepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocolsResolve billing errors, process billing for medications not dispensed through WorxRespond to telephone inquiriesOther duties as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medicationsAssist with training of staffComplete special projects as assigned by supervisorROTATING WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYSRequired Qualifications*Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability: Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.Pharmacy Technician AssociateHigh School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experienceValid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory AffairsProficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.Pharmacy Tech GradGraduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Eligible for licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan Pharmacy, or currently licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan (Temporary License or Full License)Desired Qualifications*At least one year technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment. In addition, All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.Modes of WorkPositions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
