EHS Coordinator
Overview:
To support Hearne’s efforts to provide a safe environment for our employees, contractors, visitors and the surrounding community in cooperation with facility and corporate Operations and health and safety (H&S) objectives, targets and initiatives. This position will have responsibility for ensuring compliance with internal and external H&S requirements on Hearne’s 2nd and 3rd shift. This position will support the H&S Manager in understanding and strategically reducing H&S risk to Hearne off-shifts via proactive and continuous improvement efforts. A primary focus of this position will be ensuring EHS and job task training is effective and completed on the off-shifts. Additionally, this role will be responsible for incident management / investigations for incidents occurring during off-shifts. Additional EHS task work will be assigned as time is available.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for all safety compliance including: Good catch reporting, day-to-day incident management/investigations/follow-up, EHS Corrective action tracking & closure, safety inspections
Respond immediately to any workplace-related incidents including accompanying injured employees to medical appointments / visits
Maintain (or oversee) combustible gas / air quality meters (e.g., calibrated, maintained, etc.)
Monitor / comply with any day-to-day, customer-specific EHS requirements
Perform (or ensure complete) Weekly Confined Space Entry Compliance Observation
Perform (or ensure complete) Monthly Safety & Housekeeping Inspection
Perform (or ensure complete) monthly EHS reporting (e.g., Training Schedule, MIR, etc.)
Maintain (or ensure complete) chemical SDS inventory
Maintain (or ensure complete) waste disposal (hazardous and non-haz) documentation
Ensure compliance with DOT requirements
Ensure emergency response compliance (e.g., minimum rescue team members on site, routine rescue drills completed, etc)
Maintain (or oversee) emergency equipment inspections (e.g., showers and eyewashes; confined space rescue equipment, etc)
Perform (or ensure complete) environmental related inspections and/or reporting
Liaison with security personal regarding any shop security issues that arise.
Conduct (or ensure complete) annual EHS classroom training and maintain EHS training records; monitor compliance with EHS computer-based training
Support 1st shift EHS training administrative requirements (e.g., administration, scheduling, etc.)
Support task-based training efforts on off-shift for new employees and/or transfers
Serve as point of contact in the absence of other off-shift Supervisors
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s or associate’s degree with concentration in Science, Engineering, Operations or related field preferred
1+ years EHS experience in an industrial / manufacturing environment or 3 years working experience in railcar repair industry with a demonstrated interest in EHS
Basic computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Basic familiarity with AAR/FRA regulatory requirements preferred.
Working knowledge of OSHA standards preferred.
Experience creating / delivering training content preferred.
