K-5 Math CoachFocused on Quality: Committed to Excellence.Job Title: K-5 Math Coach Supervised by/Reports to: Local School Principal Director of Elementary CurriculumFLSA Status: ExemptJob Goals:The K-5 Math Coach will lead efforts at the local school to increase math achievement for all student populations and facilitate the implementation of the Alabama Math Standards.Qualifications:1. Teacher Certification in early childhood or elementary education.2. Master's degree preferred or have completed recommended professional development.3. Minimum of five years recent experience teaching math in elementary.4. Teaching experience at more than one grade-level preferred.5. Demonstrate expertise in mathematics instruction and intervention with proven results in improving student achievement.6. A deep level of understanding of the Alabama Math Standards.7. Evidence of success in working with adult learners.8. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.9. Evidence of strong written communication and presentation skills.10. Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills.11. Evidence of successful leadership in mathematics content at a grade level, building level or district level.12. Experience in conducting mathematics staff development preferred.13. Experience in mentoring/coaching teachers preferred.14. A strong commitment to team collaboration through Professional Learning Communities.Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:• Collaborate with grade level teachers to better understand and implement the Numeracy Act, resources (pacing guides, curricula, assessment, etc.) and instructional plans to improve the success of students.• Collaborate with grade level teams to develop rigorous tasks, lessons, and assessments aligned with the current Alabama Mathematics Course of Study; to facilitate the analysis of student work samples and assessment data; and to work in partnership with teachers to provide real-time feedback and make next-step instructional decisions based on the student evidence.• Collaborate with school administrators and all K-5 teachers (including regular classroom, SPED, ESL, etc.) in implementing, strengthening, supporting, and organizing mathematics learning to guarantee all students experience high quality mathematics instruction and view mathematics as a sense making endeavor.• Develop and facilitate job-embedded and other ongoing professional learning opportunities for teachers, using coaching strategies such as joint pre-planning, modeling lessons, co-teaching lessons, targeted observation to collect data, and debriefing.• Assist teachers in administering early numeracy/fractional reasoning screeners or diagnostic assessments.• Supports/Co-Facilitates with school administrators and teachers to analyze and utilize assessment data in all tiers of mathematics instruction to make decisions that will move all subgroups of students to higher levels of performance in mathematics.• Promote enhanced mathematics instruction and student mathematical practices by coaching and partnering with teachers to consistently implement effective mathematics teaching practices, formative assessment cycles focusing on student outcomes, evidence, and thinking; and adjusting instruction based on individual student needs and providing feedback accordingly.• Collaborating with teachers to foster the use of appropriate instructional materials, including concrete materials necessary to ensure that students understand mathematical concepts.• Coach and mentor teachers in instruction of students for all tiers of mathematics in order to reach the goal of continually increasing the number of students performing at or above grade-level proficiency.• Partner with teachers to achieve the goal of raising the mathematical performance of all students, and to continually sharpen their skill and efficacy in producing growth in student outcomes.• Model an exemplary work ethic by actively coaching teachers, and participating as a fully functioning member of the school staff daily so that teacher capacity is built, and efficacy is achieved.• Advocate/plan/coordinate opportunities for family engagement activities in mathematics.• Actively engage in on-going learning opportunities to grow in knowledge, skills, and expertise in mathematics.• Support teachers in the authentic integration of computer science and computational thinking concepts within the mathematics classroom.• Attend monthly district meetings.• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls.
