RN Service Line Director- Med Surg

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is seeking a strategic and visionary Service Line Director of Med-Surg & Acute Care. This executive leadership role is responsible for the strategic growth, fiscal health, and integrated care delivery of five medical-surgical departments. As a key architect of our modern care environment, you will lead five direct reports (Clinical Directors) to ensure excellence across our high-volume acute care units.This role focuses on high-level strategy, physician alignment, and the implementation of innovative care models, including Team Nursing and Virtual Nursing integration. Our Med-Surg and Acute Care service lines are the cornerstone of the region's most comprehensive academic medical center. We are a "Learning Organization" committed to innovation, currently pioneering the integration of virtual care and team-based models to define the future of nursing.As the RN Service Line Director, you will oversee the strategic direction and operational management of the Med-Surg and Acute Care service lines, ensuring high-quality patient care and effective collaboration among clinical teams.ResponsibilitiesClinical Operations: Is accountable for the assigned service line. In collaboration with physician partner(s), develops and implements a shared vision and strategic direction for the service line with the goals of achieving growth and market differentiation. Builds relationships with physicians and other providers to increase alignment and collaboration. Responsible for the delivery of effective patient care through staff associates. Leads development and implementation of strategies for the improved care and safety of patients. Responsive to the outcomes of clinical care by participation in the development and implementation of improvement solutions. Establishes and tracks metrics to determine success and drive decisions. Plays a direct role in collaboration with care team to ensure outstanding patient service. Advances technology and innovation to drive excellence in the service line. Maximizes service line success through incorporation of standardized processes and protocols.
Associate Management: Hires, coaches, develops, and evaluates the performance of associates. Works through Clinical Directors and Patient Care Coordinators to ensure effective deployment of the care delivery system and required staffing. Provides coaching and feedback. Creates positive work environments. Accountable for associate retention and engagement outcomes. Ensures effective and efficient use of human resources. Collaborates across appropriate system resources for education and development of associates.
Fiscal Management: Develops budgets for human, other operating and capital budgets. Effectively deploys the fiscal plan for the scope of responsibility. Understands and analyzes fiscal variances and initiates appropriate plans for management. Effectively uses data and outcome information from various systems and sources.
Environmental Management & General Management of the Business: Ensures continued readiness regarding accreditation and regulatory requirements, and in particular. Responsible for the general upkeep of the physical facilities and patient care equipment. Leads implementation of technology and other assigned projects.QualificationsMaster's Degree in Nursing
7-9 years of leadership experience
Current BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification from the American Heart AssociationRequired SkillsClinical expertise in the care of med surge/ acute patients
Strong collaborative, facilitation, and influence skills
Ability to think strategically and lead teams effectively
Knowledge of regulatory requirements in academic medical centers
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in data analysis and interpretationPreferred SkillsTranslate organizational goals into actionable growth plans for the Med-Surg service line.
Lead 5 Med-Surg departments through 5 direct-report Clinical Directors.
Oversee the evolution of our Team Nursing model, ensuring RNs, LPNs, and PCTs work at the top of their scope.
Drive the adoption and optimization of Virtual Nursing to enhance patient transitions, unburden bedside staff, and improve clinical oversight.
Manage the aggregate budget for the service line, focusing on resource optimization, market differentiation, and long-term financial viability.
Build robust partnerships with medical staff and academic partners to ensure a unified approach to patient care and safety.
