Accounts Payable Specialist - Pittsburgh, PAPosition TypeOpen to Contract-to-Hire or Direct HirePosition OverviewA private educational institution is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable & Student Billing Specialist to support theBusiness Office during a team transition. This role is being created as part of a departmental restructure following an upcoming retirement, with responsibilities focused primarily on Accounts Payable and student billing, along with limited exposure to accounts receivable.This position requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent customer service capabilities, and the ability to work effectively within an academic environment that includes collaboration with faculty and communication with parents.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts PayableReview, route, and process approximately 150-200 electronic invoices per week using a third-party AP platformAssign appropriate approvers and ensure invoices are accurately coded to general ledger accounts and project codesTrack invoices through approval workflows and initiate payments as neededRun limited manual checks when requiredSupport corporate credit card reconciliation activitiesStudent Billing & Limited ReceivablesAssist with student billing and tuition-related inquiriesHandle a small volume of receivables; the majority of receipts are processed through third-party platformsCommunicate professionally with parents regarding tuition questions, payment timelines, and billing concernsInternal Collaboration & SupportPartner with faculty and staff to clarify invoice coding and payment questionsProvide patient, professional guidance to non-finance users submitting requestsAssist with ad hoc projects and support broader Business Office initiatives as capacity allowsQualifications & ExperiencePrior Accounts Payable experience requiredWorking knowledge of 1099 reporting with strong attention to detailAdvanced Excel skills required, including pivot tables and data analysis (beyond basic data entry)Comfortable managing high invoice volume and large data setsStrong customer service and communication skills, particularly when working with parents and internal stakeholdersOpen, flexible, and eager to learn new processes and systemsResults-driven mindset focused on accuracy and efficiency rather than strict clock-watchingTeam & ReportingBusiness Office team of approximately five professionalsThis role reports directly to Business Office leadershipScheduleTypical hours: 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Some flexibility available based on workload and project needsCompensationEquivalent hourly rate for contract-to-hire: approximately $23 -$26 per hourAdditional RequirementsState and federal background checks required due to the school environmentPay Details: $23.00 to $26.00 per hourSearch managed by: Molly Moorfoot Benefit offerings available for our associates include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, additional voluntary benefits, EAP program, commuter benefits and a 401K plan.
