The company develops technologies and solutions across conventional utility, industrial, renewable energy, and power infrastructure projects.## About the RoleThe Lead Application Engineer serves as a technical leader and technological point person throughout the Inquiry to Order (ITO) phase. This role combines engineering expertise, technical proposal development, cost estimation, and customer engagement to develop competitive solutions that meet customer specifications and business objectives.The engineer works closely with commercial teams, proposal managers, sourcing, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop technically accurate and cost-effective proposals for substation, power systems, and related infrastructure projects.## Key Responsibilities* Serve as the technical point person throughout the Inquiry to Order (ITO) phase.* Provide technical expertise and develop solutions covering configuration, performance estimation, economics, and related requirements.* Support the commercial team during the pre-ITO requisition process.* Develop high-quality, compliant, effective, and cost-competitive technical proposals.* Ensure proposal accuracy across technical specifications, clarifications, assumptions, exceptions, design deliverables, installation scope, cost allocation, bills of materials, and engineering estimates.* Estimate engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning requirements using customer specifications, industry standards, sourcing information, and historical data.* Perform basic technical studies to validate proposed specifications and designs.* Create technical support materials and bid packages for subcontractors and power equipment.* Support customer presentations covering technical capabilities and proposals.* Develop methodologies, templates, and libraries to improve cost-estimating accuracy and reduce engineering effort.* Write technical specifications for equipment and services while working with Project Managers and Sourcing teams on vendor quotes and responses.* Collaborate with Proposal Managers, Application Engineering teams, and multidisciplinary engineers to develop Engineer, Procure, & Construct (EPC) estimates.* Support estimates for conventional utility, industrial, and renewable substations, protection and control, equipment programs, Systems & Communications projects, and balance-of-plant projects, including FACTS and HVDC segments.* Apply knowledge of relevant markets and customer economic value to support winning bid strategies.* Evaluate competition and market differentiators.* Use engineering judgment to solve moderately complex technical, operational, product, manufacturing, and engineering problems.* Build consensus and influence stakeholders on technical topics.## Required Qualifications* Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree.* Minimum 5 years of experience in substation/electrical design, studies, specifications, estimating, and construction.* Experience with substation, transmission, or power generation projects within the power generation, distribution, or transmission industry.* Minimum 2 years of technical proposal writing and proposal management experience.* Ability to travel up to 20%, including potential international travel.* Ability to comply with applicable company travel and tax policies.* Legally authorized to work in the United States.## Preferred Qualifications* Experience developing proposals for large and complex substation projects.* Experience with full turnkey substation solutions, EPC, and EPCI projects, including civil works.* Experience developing technical strategies based on customer critical-to-quality requirements and desired outcomes.* Strong understanding of power transmission and distribution equipment and systems.* Knowledge of electrical substations and protection devices.* Knowledge of equipment installation, construction, and field operations.* Experience estimating engineering design packages, including drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of materials.* Experience with power system studies and MV/HV/EHV/UHV equipment.* Knowledge of project estimating methods and cost engineering principles.* Knowledge of HV/EHV substation physical and outdoor design and construction, including foundation design and site preparation.* Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes.* Knowledge of SCADA communication and power systems automation applications.* Experience with factory and site testing, commissioning, and maintenance.* Construction, field testing, and commissioning experience.* Knowledge of IEEE and ANSI standards and codes, including NEC and NESC.* Working knowledge of power systems automation equipment, SCADA applications, and communication
