Controller – Accounting & Close Lead (15–25 Hours/Week) Position Summary The Controller – Accounting & Close Lead is a senior-level, part-time role responsible for owning the monthly close, ensuring financial accuracy across all entities, and elevating the accounting function through structure, documentation, and leadership. This role is hands-on where necessary and strategic where it matters most. The Controller will personally perform key accounting functions (including bank reconciliations and filings), while also developing processes and training pathways that strengthen the Billing Supervisor and accounting team over time. This position carries direct supervisory authority over the Billing Supervisor and serves as the primary financial partner to company leadership. Core Responsibilities: Accounting & Close Ownership · Own and execute the monthly close for all AG Team entities · Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations with accuracy and consistency · Maintain general ledger integrity across all companies · Identify, resolve, and prevent accounting discrepancies · Ensure books are clean, defensible, and audit-ready Financial Reporting & Forecasting · Prepare and deliver leadership-ready financial statements · Provide financial context, trend analysis, and risk visibility — not just reports · Develop and maintain cash flow forecasting · Support leadership with financial reporting insights · Partner with leadership to support informed, real-time decision-making Compliance & Filings · Handle and ensure timely filing of: - IFTA - HUT - Applicable state and regulatory tax filings · Maintain compliance documentation and schedules · Develop SOPs and documentation to allow future delegation where appropriate Leadership & Team Development · Directly manage and mentor the Billing Team Supervisor · Provide accounting oversight, coaching, and corrective guidance as needed · Establish clear accounting standards and expectations · Create documented processes to support professional growth and scalability · Serve as the accounting authority for escalation and resolution Process Improvement & Documentation · Build, document, and refine accounting workflows and controls · Strengthen close timelines, reconciliation standards, and reporting consistency · Improve cross-entity accounting alignment · Collaborate with internal stakeholders to reduce friction between operations and accounting Qualifications & Experience · Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting · Proven experience owning the monthly close · Experience performing bank reconciliations and managing GL integrity · Comfort working independently with accountability · Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred · QuickBooks expertise required · Transportation/logistics industry experience a plus · McLeod experience a plus, not required What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days) · Month-end close completed on time with confidence · Clean, reconciled books across all entities · Clear visibility into financial health and cash flow · Documented accounting processes in place · Strong working relationship established with Billing Supervisor · Leadership confident in the numbers being presented Compensation Compensation will be based on experience, scope, and availability.
