Maintenance Technician
Department: Manufacturing / Operations
Reports to: Plant Manager
Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HDPE extrusion, downstream, and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production. This role supports production uptime, equipment reliability, and plant safety through proactive maintenance and rapid response to equipment issues.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities1. Equipment Maintenance & Reliability
Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HDPE extrusion lines and downstream equipment.
Maintain extruders, dies, tooling, vacuum tanks, cooling systems, pullers, saws, winders, and material handling equipment.
Respond promptly to unplanned downtime and equipment failures.
Support production during startups, changeovers, and troubleshooting events.
2. Preventive Maintenance (PM)
Execute scheduled PMs per OEM recommendations and internal maintenance plans.
Inspect heaters, motors, bearings, belts, gearboxes, thermocouples, and wear components.
Lubricate equipment per defined schedules.
Document PM completion and identify potential failure risks.
3. Troubleshooting & Repairs
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
Diagnose heater failures, temperature control issues, vacuum loss, puller speed variation, and cooling inefficiencies.
Perform mechanical repairs including bearing replacement, alignment, and seal or hose replacement.
Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures.
4. Safety & Compliance
Follow all plant safety policies including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE requirements.
Identify and correct unsafe equipment conditions.
Ensure machine guarding and safety interlocks are functioning properly.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area.
5. Documentation & Communication
Document work orders, downtime causes, and parts usage accurately.
Communicate equipment status and repair timelines to Production and Management.
Maintain equipment maintenance logs and histories.
Assist in developing maintenance procedures and checklists.
6. Parts & Inventory Support
Identify required spare parts and consumables.
Support maintenance of critical spare parts inventory.
Report low stock levels or obsolete components.
Coordinate with vendors and service providers as needed.
7. Continuous Improvement
Recommend equipment upgrades and reliability improvements.
Support uptime and efficiency improvement initiatives.
Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of new equipment.
Train operators on basic equipment care and early issue identification.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong mechanical aptitude with industrial equipment.
Strong Electrical & Mechanical skills (up to 480V)
Experience with HDPE extrusion equipment preferred.
Ability to read schematics, manuals, and technical drawings.
Familiarity with VFDs, PLC interfaces, and industrial controls is a plus.
3+ Years Industrial Maintenance
Solid Troubleshooting & Repair Skills
Reliable, Independent and on-call ready
Welding/Fab experience is a plus
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 30.0 per week
