Oracle EPM Technical Application SME

Duration: 6+ month contract; Strong potential for extension or full-time conversion
Compensation: Competitive Rate (C2C)
Overview Our client in the commercial banking domain is urgently seeking a senior Oracle EPM Technical Application Consultant / Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support and enhance Oracle EPM Cloud applications across their organization. This critical role partners closely with Finance, Accounting, and FP&A teams to design, build, optimize, and support scalable EPM solutions.
The ideal candidate must bring deep, demonstrated, hands-on expertise with a strong track record of designing planning processes and tuning calculation performance. Candidates must be prepared to articulate specifics and details of recent implementation projects—simply a high-level familiarity with EPM is insufficient for this role.
Candidates who lack experience leading or materially contributing to the full implementation and design of planning processes will not be considered. The following requirements demand proven expertise and depth:
10+ years of Oracle EPM experience, with significant depth in Oracle EPM Cloud.
Proven, deep, hands-on ability to lead and own the end-to-end design and implementation of planning processes in EPM Planning/EPBCS. This is far beyond just writing calculation rules.
Expertise must include design and articulation of planning cycle design, business process alignment, and user experience considerations based on real-world projects.
Strong technical experience with one or more core Oracle EPM products: EPBCS / Planning / Essbase, FCCS, HFM, EDMCS/DRM/DRG.
Key Responsibilities Serve as an ongoing technical SME to support production applications, including break/fix and small-to-medium enhancements.
Design and implement planning processes in EPM Planning/EPBCS (e.g., driver-based planning, forecasting, scenario modeling, approvals/workflows, forms, Smart View, and end-to-end cycles).
Develop and maintain calculation scripts / business rules, Groovy (where applicable), and Essbase artifacts.
Performance tune and optimize rules to ensure fast execution and scalability (efficient calc design, block/aggregation strategy, data volume considerations, rule sequencing, and avoiding common performance pitfalls).
Build and maintain dimension builds, data loads, automations, and batch integration processes.
Integrate GL and upstream finance data sources into EPM applications (Data Management and/or other integration patterns).
Support and execute on-premise to EPM Cloud migrations, including refactoring artifacts where needed.
Produce high-quality technical documentation for solution design, training, and knowledge transfer.
Required Technical Skills / Experience 10+ years of Oracle EPM experience, with significant depth in Oracle EPM Cloud.
Strong experience with one or more of the following: EPBCS / Planning / Essbase, FCCS, HFM, EDMCS/DRM/DRG.
Expert-level hands-on experience building and maintaining:
Business rules / calc scripts (with an emphasis on performance and runtime optimization).
Metadata management (DRM hierarchies, mappings, workflows; DRG experience preferred).
Automation scripts and batch orchestration.
Strong scripting experience: PowerShell and Batch (Python is a plus).
Experience working directly with Finance/Accounting/FP&A stakeholders in large enterprise environments.
Hands-on experience integrating GL data sources and implementing reliable reconciliation/validation controls.
Soft Skills Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to explain technical concepts to business partners.
Able to work independently and within a larger cross-functional team.
Comfortable managing multiple priorities and delivering against timelines.
Nice to Have Python scripting for automations/integrations.
