JOB DESCRIPTION:
Primary Purpose: Provide expertise in implementing sheltered instructional strategies and carry out the ESL program with fidelity. This staff member will be responsible for implementing and monitoring state and federal compliance requirements and manage and process required documentation. Support campus teachers in planning lessons using sheltered strategies to linguistically accommodate content instruction (communicated, sequenced, scaffolded) in addition to providing support in planning focused, targeted, and systematic language instruction for beginning and intermediate ELLs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Management
Serve as professional resource for campus staff members on effective language acquisition strategies.
Coach teachers in delivering exemplary sheltered instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs).
Support the implementation of the District curriculum and program model for ESL programs.
School/Organization Improvement/Climate
Manage all documentation, testing, identification and exiting of ELLs from the district programs through Language Proficiency Assessment Committees (LPACs).
Monitor and implement state and federal compliance requirements for ELLs in program placement, student academic and linguistic monitoring and testing at the campus level.
Monitor student academic and linguistic proficiency levels and testing at the campus level.
Attend all required District LPAC trainings.
Deliver sheltered trainings that are required for all teachers working with ELLs.
Plan, facilitate and/or present staff development programs for ELLs that are aligned to district Accelerated Language Program (ALP) department initiatives.
Assist in analyzing Limited English Proficient (LEP) data in order to address students’ specific academic needs in the campus improvement planning process.
Respond to staff requests for training such as lesson modeling, targeted strategies, mentoring, etc.
Attend and, if appropriate, facilitate ELL specific meetings in all content areas.
Work collaboratively with building principal, facilitators and ALP Director in the selection and ordering of appropriate resources that support Second Language Acquisition that are aligned to district curriculum and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
Analyze ESL student data in collaboration with campus administrators and teachers to provide guidance in implementation and monitoring of linguistic accommodations in classrooms to increase language proficiency in alignment with student data.
Provide guidance and model how to meet student’s linguistic needs in a small group setting for teachers.
Co-write and demonstrate sheltered model lessons with teachers.
Coach teachers needing additional assistance in implementing differentiated sheltered instruction for ELLs.
Professional Growth and Development
Attend monthly District Lead meetings.
Attend trainings to stay current on content and sheltered strategies for ELLs.
Attendance at work is an essential function.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
Three years of teaching experience
Experience in providing comprehensive staff development in sheltered instruction and balanced literacy
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree
ESL Certification
Hold a valid Texas certificate for grade level of campus assigned
Valid Texas driver’s license
Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Have content specialty in second language acquisition and sheltered instruction including classroom experience in implementing ESL program models
Have good interpersonal skills
Have good communication skills
Strong desire to learn
Spanish speaking, preferred
