Field and Laboratory Scientist

Field and Laboratory Scientist The successful candidate will assist professional staff in a variety of laboratory tasks including measuring basic soil parameters, conducting saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity testing, and the construction and calibration of vadose and saturated zone monitoring instruments. The position also consists of (maximum) 50% fieldwork with travel in the Western US, Mexico, and South America. Field tasks primarily include maintenance and installation of monitoring instruments, soil and water sampling, and geologic logging. Office tasks may include (based on experience): data entry, data processing, analysis, and/or GIS. Requirements: BS in Soil Science, Hydrology, Geology, Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or other Natural Sciences field Proactive, eager to learn, and hard working Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word) Attention to detail and maintaining meticulous records Independent problem solving and critical thinking skills Willingness to travel up to 50% Ability to lift 50 lbs Ability to work in extreme environments (infrequently) Valid passport Preferred skills: Experience working in a scientific or commercial laboratory Hand and power tool experience Building and/or mechanical experience Databases and programming (Python, MySQL, Access, Campbell Scientific) Data analysis skills GeoSystems Analysis, Inc. provides state-of-the-art expertise to government and industry in the fields of mine reclamation, habitat restoration, artificial and natural groundwater recharge and unsaturated flow processes.
