Assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures as a secondary assignment. Prepares the room and equipment, transports, and monitors patients. May handle medications in accordance with responsibilities. Assists Physicians with arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, diagnostic and interventional, peripheral and coronary procedures, interventional and thrombolytic therapy. Related duties include preparing and maintaining sterile fields for lab procedures, printing film, and calculating stenosis on peripheral cases. Circulates in procedure rooms and collects data on appropriate forms. Monitors the patient's ECG and vital signs while in the Catheterization Lab, notifying the Physician of variances and providing emergency procedures (CPR, defibrillation, etc.) as needed. Performs pre-and post-procedure care. Monitors and orients patients for specials/catheterization procedures. Answers related questions to make the patient comfortable. Transports patients to and from the procedural area. Communicates relevant medical information through required documentation on specified medical record forms. Records, enters into data computer, and calculates catheterization data, gradients, LV grams, cardiac outputs, and peripheral stenosis. Follows national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff. Maintains inventory of and orders procedure room supplies. Ensures procedure rooms are adequately stocked and equipment is safe to use. Key success factors include: One year of clinical experience preferred. Use of basic office equipment and computer literacy required. Ability to multi-task and demonstrate problem-solving skills. Ability to demonstrate precision and flexibility. Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular principles, instrumentation, and techniques.
