We are seeking our next Maintenance Technician II who will be all-in on our mission and who performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus facilities and building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general mechanical equipment. This position supports the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of college facilities through preventive maintenance, timely corrective repairs, and assistance with renovation and improvement projects. The Maintenance Technician II ensures work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and Amarillo College service expectations.QualificationsEDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or GED.EXPERIENCE:Required: Five (5) years of experience in maintenance and repair.Preferred: Three (3) years of journeyman-level experience.CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a minimum three (3) year safe driving record.Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform skilled maintenance and repair work in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building systems.Diagnose equipment and system malfunctions and implement appropriate corrective actions.Install, maintain, and repair fixtures, piping, mechanical components, and related equipment.Maintain heating and cooling units and assist with the replacement and upgrade of aging systems.Perform periodic inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, boilers, chillers, and related systems.Ensure all plumbing systems remain in safe, functional working condition.Assist with remodeling, renovation, and construction support projects.Support campus moves, equipment installations, and space modifications as assigned.Coordinate work activities to minimize disruption to students, faculty, staff, and campus operations.Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.Follow established safety procedures, building codes, and regulatory requirements.Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.Use proper lifting techniques and material-handling equipment when moving heavy objects.Complete assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner.Participate in the preventive maintenance program to extend equipment life and reduce downtime.Report identified facility or equipment deficiencies and recommend solutions.Provide responsive, professional service to faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors.Work independently and collaboratively as part of the Facilities team.Participate in performance evaluations, training, and departmental meetings as assigned.Perform other work-related duties as required.As an Amarillo College employee, seek knowledge of and pledge to actively engage in a culture of caring striving to serve students, peers and the community by embracing the AC Core Values: Wow, Family, Fun, Innovation, and Yes!Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesWorking knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.Knowledge of applicable building, electrical, and HVAC codes and standards.Knowledge of chillers, boilers, and preventive maintenance practices.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.Skill in the safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools.Ability to troubleshoot equipment and system issues efficiently.Strong attention to detail and reliability.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Effective communication and customer service skills.Knowledge of proper methods for lifting and moving heavy materials.Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.Pay grade 8 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions. The position requires working in wet areas, exposure to odors associated with plumbing systems, and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to thirty (30) pounds independently and heavier objects with assistance or appropriate equipment.Working Environment: This position requires a flexible schedule and participation in a rotating on-call emergency maintenance schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
