College Application Counselor

A strong online community and social media presence enable interactive, remote learning and peer support.Role Description: This is a remote, freelance/contract role for a College Application Counselor. The counselor will guide high school students through the full college application process, including school list building, timeline planning, and application strategy. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting one-on-one virtual advising sessions, reviewing application materials, and providing feedback on personal statements, supplemental essays, and activity descriptions. The counselor will also advise students on course selection, extracurricular planning, and opportunities that strengthen their academic and personal profiles. Additional tasks include educating students and families on financial aid basics, coordinating with internal team members, maintaining accurate advising notes, and participating in occasional virtual workshops or webinars.QualificationsDemonstrated experience in college counseling and guiding college applications for diverse student populations.Background in student counseling and working directly with high school students in an advisory or mentoring capacity.Knowledge of student financial aid options, scholarships, and basic financial planning for higher education.Familiarity with U.S. college admissions processes, timelines, and requirements (experience with international applicants is a plus).Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to coach students on essay development and storytelling.Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple students and deadlines in a remote environment.Comfort with virtual collaboration tools, learning platforms, and maintaining accurate digital records.Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Communications, or a related field; advanced degree or formal counseling certification is a plus.Prior experience in school counseling, college admissions, or educational consulting is highly beneficial.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting students from varied backgrounds and future pathways.
