Additional benefits information can be found at https://www.msdwt.k12.in.us/benefitsJOB EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTSPosition Purpose / DescriptionThe Speech-Language Pathologist works within the district with students who qualify for speech language services. The SLP is responsible for screening, evaluating, treating students with qualifying diagnoses. The school-based speech-language pathologist provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services to students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication disorders. Speech language pathologists are responsible for coaching and consulting with teachers and other support personnel to increase academic success. The SLP works with the entire school staff to provide assistance in the creation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs. Working collaboratively with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams, the SLP supports students' access to curriculum and promotes their academic and social success.Essential FunctionsDevelops, implements, and monitors Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals related to speech and language.Administers screening protocols with at-risk students to initiate the evaluation process.Attends, participates, and contributes in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and case conferences for students who have been identified as at-risk or found eligible for special education services related to speech-language disorders.Conduct comprehensive speech and language initial evaluations and triennial re-evaluations to determine eligibility.Scores and interprets standardized assessments.Creates and implements lesson plans based on the needs of students.Organizes, manages, and records student data and progress on goals.Transports students to and from testing or therapy areas.Communicates with students and other professionals to meet the academic, behavioral, and emotional needs of students.Obtains case histories and completes observation checklists.Manages behavior using appropriately designed management techniques.Arranges the clinical-educational setting to maintain a safe and positive environment.Provides direct therapy services individually and in small groups across a range of settings.Collaborates with teachers, staff, and families to support communication needs in the classroom and school environment.Additional DutiesMaintains accurate records, documentation, and reports in compliance with state and federal regulations.Provides consultation, training, and resources to school staff and families.Utilizes best practices, evidence-based interventions, and licensure requirements.Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Director of Student ServicesKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of IDEA and special education processes in schools.Experience in a school setting.Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTPERCENT OF TIMESeldom = Less than 25%Occasional = 26 to 50%Often = 51 to 75%Very Frequent = 76% and aboveAbility to stand for extended periods of timeOftenAbility to carry 25 poundsOccasionalAmount to lift 25 poundsOccasionalAmount of force to push/pull up to 25poundsSeldomAbility to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurationsVery FrequentAbility to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matterVery FrequentAbility to hear and understand speech at normal levelsVery FrequentAbility to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversationVery FrequentAbility to operate office equipmentVery FrequentAbility to reach in all directionsVery FrequentClimbingSeldomOverhead workSeldomCONTACT INFORMATIONDr. Wendy Skibinski, Director of Special Serviceswskibinski@msdwt.k12.in.usThe Metropolitan School District of Washington Township is an equal opportunity/equal access employer fully committed to achieving a diverse workforce and complies with all applicable Federal and Indiana State laws, regulations, and executive orders in its programs and activities.
