Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline required
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Chemical Engineer II to support process safety, chemical systems, equipment readiness, and commissioning activities at a solar wafers manufacturing facility in Hemlock, MI. This role is ideal for a hands‑on engineer with experience in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, HAZOP/PHA participation, and plant startup support.
The ideal candidate will bring strong process safety fundamentals, technical problem‑solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with plant operations, vendors, and cross‑functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead or support HAZOPs and PHAs to identify hazards and implement safeguards
Support safe design, optimization, startup, and operation of chemical manufacturing systems
Assist with commissioning, operational readiness, and startup activities
Troubleshoot chemical and manufacturing process issues using structured problem‑solving methods
Update technical documentation including procedures, P&IDs, and control narratives
Collaborate with plant personnel, vendors, and engineering teams to resolve operational challenges
Analyze process data and apply statistical methods to improve process performance and reliability
Communicate technical findings, project updates, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
3+ years of chemical manufacturing, process engineering, or industrial experience
Strong understanding of chemical process systems and engineering fundamentals
Experience with process safety principles, OSHA PSM, and EHS requirements
Familiarity with HAZOPs, PHAs, and chemical delivery systems
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
Ability to work onsite in a plant/startup manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, COMSOL, ProSim Plus, or MATLAB
Experience with DOE and statistical tools such as JMP, Minitab, Origin, or SigmaZone
Previous startup, commissioning, or manufacturing scale‑up experience
Willingness to travel domestically to support additional manufacturing sites as needed
