We are seeking a Process Development Scientist to join our R&D team in Frederick, MD. Qualified individuals will execute small-scale downstream process development and analytical studies. The ideal candidate will exercise appropriate technical judgment in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments. The candidate will receive general instructions from a supervisor for routine work and assignments. The candidate is expected to be eager to learn, highly productive, well organized, and self-motivated.
*Essential Job Functions*:
· Design and conduct experiments in protein and DNA/RNA therapeutics recovery and purification process development, and formulation development with an interdisciplinary approach spanning molecular and protein biology, protein and biomolecule separation, chemical and biochemical engineering, etc.
· Perform column chromatography and various other routine physical and biochemical analysis on biological products, such as HPLC, SDS-PAGE, UF/DF, Western Blot, and ELISA.
· Perform small-scale _E. coli _fermentation or mammalian cell bioreactor to generate protein materials for evaluation and characterization.
· Design and perform protein stability analyses via protein size, conformation, homogeneity, and/or potency analyses.
· Optimize protein formulation and/or storage conditions to improve protein stability.
· Work with Discovery, Upstream Process Development, and Analytical Development to support material generation, design evaluation, cell line selection, product characterization and analyses.
· Generate and maintain experimental data in a highly organized manner.
· Prepare technical reports and present data and analyses, perform and support technology transfer activities, and report project status to senior scientists and management.
*Minimum Requirements*:
· A Ph.D. degree in biological or pharmaceutical science, biochemistry, bioengineering, human nutrition, or related fields.
· 0-3 years’ experience in post-doctoral training or the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
· An in-depth understanding of antibody and recombinant protein structure and purification mechanisms.
· Extensive hands-on experience with protein recovery and purification and analytical methods.
· Working experience with biophysical characterization, product stability, and related microscopic and spectroscopic analysis techniques is a plus.
· Extensive working experience with drug formulation, stability analysis, and delivery technologies.
· Exhibited ability to propose, design, execute experiments and deliver a project in a timely manner with high quality.
· Ability to work effectively in a team. Motivated and willing to work on a variety of tasks.
· Experience working with DNA and/or RNA extraction, purification, and related processes is a plus.
· Experience with model animals and surgical procedures is a plus.
This position may require you standing/sitting/walking in the lab for routinely 8 hours and sometimes up to 12 hours, as well as lifting weight up to 30 pounds.
