Full Job DescriptionJob Title: Word Press EngineerLocation: RemoteHM: Scott PorterDuration: Full-TimeShift Timing: Candidate should be available at least 3 hours per day overlapping Mountain Time.Role SummaryWe are looking for a skilled WordPress Engineer to join our team on a full-time contract basis. This role focuses on ongoing WordPress site maintenance and development across a portfolio of client websites, as well as contributing to new builds and occasional platform migration projects.Our clients span education, nonprofit, defense, and other industries — adaptability across different business contexts is valued.The ideal candidate is a self-starter who communicates clearly, works independently, and is comfortable collaborating with project managers and other engineers in a structured development workflow.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain custom WordPress themes using PHP, CSS, and JavaScriptDevelop ACF Flexible Content layouts, custom fields, and reusable content blocksManage and troubleshoot WordPress multisite (WordPress Network) environmentsCreate and maintain custom post types, taxonomies, and template hierarchiesImplement responsive designs from provided mockups or HTML/CSS assetsBuild accessible, semantic navigation systems including mega-menus with keyboard supportConfigure and troubleshoot WordPress plugins, cron jobs, and email/newsletter automationsIntegrate forms solutions (e.g., Gravity Forms) across client sitesManage WordPress security hardening, plugin/core updates, backup and recovery procedures, and uptime monitoring across client sitesFollow established development workflows: pull requests, code reviews, and staging/production deployments via Azure DevOpsCommunicate progress, blockers, and questions clearly and proactively to project managers and team membersRequired SkillsWordPress Development — Strong experience building custom themes from scratch or extending existing themes; comfortable with page builders and the block editorWordPress Multisite — Hands-on experience managing WordPress Network installationsAdvanced Custom Fields (ACF) — Solid experience with Flexible Content fields, repeaters, custom field groups, and ACF blocksPHP — Confident writing custom template logic, hooks, filters, and functionsCSS/SCSS — Able to implement responsive designs and match provided mockups/assetsJavaScript — Basic to intermediate JS for frontend interactivity, carousels, menu behavior, and DOM manipulationAzure DevOps — Familiar with Git-based workflows including pull requests, code reviews, and staging/production deployment pipelinesPlugin Management — Able to evaluate, configure, troubleshoot, and extend WordPress pluginsSecurity & Maintenance — Experience with WordPress security best practices, plugin/core updates, backup/recovery procedures, and site health monitoringCommunication — Works well with project managers and other engineers; responsive and proactivePreferred SkillsAccessibility (WCAG) — Familiarity with accessibility standards and remediation techniques (ARIA roles, keyboard navigation, semantic HTML)CMS Migration — Experience migrating websites from other CMS platforms (e.g., Sitefinity) to WordPress, including use of migration tools such as WP All Import or custom scripting (SQL, CSV, XML imports)SSO Integration — Experience integrating single sign-on with WordPressGravity Forms — Experience building and customizing formsWP-CLI — Comfortable with command-line WordPress management for efficient multi-site operationsPerformance Optimization — Experience with caching strategies, image optimization, and Core Web Vitals tuningGutenberg Block Development — Experience building native Gutenberg blocks using React/JSX
