Nutritional Services Aide- Cook

The Nutrition Services Aide – Cook prepares meals for residents and employees as directed, assists with serving residents in dining room, accurately loading meals onto carts & assists with meal delivery to resident units, dishwashing, and cleaning of kitchen. Assists in the kitchen area prior to, during, and after meals are served. Assists in maintaining the kitchen work areas, and keeping equipment, utensils and serving areas clean and orderly. Other duties include preparing snacks, desserts, sack lunches, taking stock of kitchen supplies and food, as appropriate & other duties assigned by Kitchen Manager. This position is full-time, exempt and will be on-site at the Macdonald Residence Assisted Living Facility. Duties and Responsibilities: · Prepares meals according to recipes, including special diets and diet textures. · Adheres to all food sanitation policies and procedures. · Adheres to all permanent and temporary government orders pertaining to working in an ALF (Assisted Living Facility). · Maintains Food Handler Permit and all other certification as necessary to fulfill state or provincial regulations. · Ensures accuracy of food ticket delivery. · Communicates resident needs, preferences & requests with the Nutrition Staff in a timely manner. · Uses food preparation equipment properly, cleans and stores appropriately, and reports repairs needed. · Ensures food is correctly stored (dated, labeled), handled and rotated, adhering to all related policies and procedures while complying with State, Federal and all other applicable health care and safety and sanitation standards. · Ensures kitchen area is cleaned throughout the day, surfaces and utensils are cleaned and sanitized after task completion, dish bins are retrieved from each floor multiple times each day, spills/messes/debris cleaned immediately, cleaning schedule is followed and signed off on daily. Performs any additional or specific duties assigned by the Supervisor. · Helps stocks supply shelves in storage area put away deliveries/stock as needed. · Attends mandatory in-service education meetings and applies information to job tasks. · On occasion, may assist with clearing dishes after residents have completed meal, sweeps dining room floor, replace napkins and silverware in preparation for next meal. · Prepares daily snacks as written and sack lunches, dates/labels and places in snack refrigerator. · Any other duties assigned by supervisor. Qualifications/ Requirements: · One year experience working in commercial kitchen or other food services environment on large scale. · Keep and maintain Food Handlers Card. · Experience working in a non-profit or residential setting preferred. · Knowledge of and experience with local, state, and federal regulations related to food safety, health codes, and nutrition services. · Basic Microsoft Office skills. · Familiarity with special diets and food allergies. · Strong commitment to food safety and sanitation procedures. · Effectively interacting with staff and supervisors, actively listening to understand needs and preferences. · Strong verbal, written and oral communication skills. · Understanding the role of different food groups, healthy meal planning, and dietary needs for various populations. · Knowledge of food safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure foodborne illness prevention. · Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, adhering to hygiene protocols, and following proper cleaning procedures. · Able to represent Macdonald Residence in a professional manner always. Able to consistently demonstrate a professional, courteous attitude when assisting residents, co-workers, and general public. · Able to work independently with minimal supervision or assistance. · Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management and residents to ensure smooth operations. · Demonstrating a strong work ethic, punctuality, and a commitment to providing quality service. · Familiarity with the organization's mission of serving the community and a willingness to contribute to its goals. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions listed above. · Ability to move around the facility, including the kitchen, dining areas, and other relevant spaces and can stand for long periods of time. · Must be able to complete all tasks described in kitchen with efficiency and using proper body mechanics to prevent injury with reasonable accommodations. · Able to bend, sit, kneel, crouch climb, stoop, push, pull and be able to lift 30 lbs – as needed. · Capability to lift, bend, and carry supplies, including but not limited to equipment, or containers of varying weights, which may be required in tasks such as inventory management. · Comfort with extended periods of standing and walking, especially in a kitchen or food service setting during a work shift. · Precise control and coordination of fingers and hands for tasks such as handling kitchen utensils, equipment, and operating machinery. · Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and to talk and hear. · Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. · The environment is characteristic of a facility in which healthcare is provided to the frail elderly.
