DescriptionRestorative Practices Coordinator at Julian Thomas Elementary SchoolPosition SummaryThe Restorative Practices Coordinator supports the development of a positive, inclusive, and relationship-centered school culture by implementing restorative practices. This role emphasizes proactive relationship-building, conflict prevention, and restorative responses to harm. The coordinator collaborates with students, staff, and families to reduce disciplinary incidents, strengthen relationships, and promote accountability, belonging, and engagement across the school community.Education And ExperienceBachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or related field requiredMaster’s degree preferredExperience working in K–12 school settings; Elementary experience preferredDemonstrated experience with behavior support, school climate initiatives, or student servicesLicenses And CertificationsRestorative Practices, Restorative Justice, or Conflict Mediation training preferredValid Wisconsin DPI License (either a Teacher, Social Worker, Counselor, Psychologist License is acceptable)Core CompetenciesRelationship-building and cultural responsivenessFacilitation and conflict mediationCommunication and collaborationProblem-solving and decision-makingData-informed practiceCoaching and adult learningEssential FunctionsPrevention & School CultureLead implementation of Tier I restorative practices across the schoolFacilitate and model community-building circles to promote belonging and connectionSupport staff in embedding restorative practices into daily classroom routines and expectationsProvide professional development and coaching focused on proactive strategies, relationship-building, and restorative languageCollaborate with school leadership to align restorative practices with PBIS Tier I expectations and SEL instructionSupport the development of consistent, schoolwide practices that create predictability, trust, and a positive climateIntervention & Conflict ResolutionFacilitate restorative conferences and mediations to repair harm and restore relationshipsSupport students in developing accountability and repair-of-harm plansProvide restorative alternatives to exclusionary discipline when appropriateCollaboration & Systems SupportPartner with administrators, counselors, and MTSS/behavior teams to support studentsEngage families in restorative processes as appropriateSupport the development of student leadership opportunities Data & Continuous ImprovementAnalyze discipline and climate data to identify Tier I strengths and gapsMonitor the effectiveness of restorative practices in reducing referrals and improving belongingSupport continuous improvement of schoolwide systems through data and feedbackQualificationsDemonstrated ability to implement schoolwide Tier I systemsStrong facilitation and conflict resolution skillsAbility to build relationships with diverse student populationsAbility to coach and support adult learnersCommitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered practicesKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesKnowledge of PBIS, SEL, MTSS, and restorative practices frameworksSkill in facilitating circles, mediating conflict, and leading groupsAbility to align practices across systems to strengthen Tier I supportsStrong communication and collaboration skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismPhysical Demands Must be able to spend up to 70% of the day walking. Able to walk or run quickly through hallways and stairwells in an emergency situation. Ability to stand for prolonged periods, respond to active crisis situations and support student movement.
