Windows/Linux Engineer

Windows and Linux Systems Engineer Must be eligible for a Security Clearance (US Citizen) No C2C Remote Job Activities Design, install, configure, secure, and maintain Windows 2016/2019 systems, Hyper-V clusters, and application software in support of project needs Install and configure Red Hat Linux Server systems. Build out both physical and virtual systems. Engineer and provide consultation for custom system solutions. Provide consulting in the selection and purchase of hardware and software systems. Manage backup services Digitize all documentation Assist Users with desktop and instrument issues across the facility User account creation and password support Maintain facility domain Maintain SQL Server Assist application developers and deploy their solutions Approve, download, and apply Windows/Linux updates across the domain Monitor for system issues Troubleshoot system problems quickly and effectively Develop and document system and service diagrams, procedures, and software build/install notes Deploy with facility when needed Install, configure, and maintain system software, both commercial packages and various freely available software (including Apache, MySQL, Postgres, PHP, ZFS, etc.). Patch both system and 3rd party vendor software to ensure security and stability. Monitor for patch releases and work with the customers and other admins to ensure the patches are applied in a timely manner. Basic Requirements: BS in Information Technology (or related area) with a minimum of 5 years professional computing experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) A minimum of 3 years of experience managing Windows Systems A minimum of 1 year of experience with Storage Administration A minimum of 1 year working with Cisco Network Switches and Firewalls Experience with creating scripts using BASH or other scripting languages is required. Experience performing troubleshooting and system administration with Linux Servers and VMware Clusters. VM administration experience Understating of Windows Domain infrastructure Experience with backup software (e.g., Altaro, Windows Backup) Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for user support and ability to work well with peer system administrators is required Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment Good written and verbal communication skills Ability to produce and maintain site documentation Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify, and isolate technical issues in order to quickly and effectively resolve problems while providing timely status and progress reports to problem manager Strong understanding of basic network theory Be willing to deploy with facility Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Active Directory administration, including group policy Ability to prepare simple documentation web pages Experience with PowerShell Experience working with servers using VLANs Strong knowledge of Red Hat Linux operating systems is preferred. Strong knowledge of open source web application services, such as Apache, is desired.
