This role is embedded within a managed services engagement supporting a large-scale enterprise client, where you will be responsible for application development, maintenance, and modernization of mission-critical iSeries-based systems. The ideal candidate combines strong Java skills with the ability to analyze complex business requirements and drive continuous improvement. This is a remote position and is a 6+ month contract with possible extension.What You'll DoDesign, develop, test, and deploy Java applications running on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform, including web services, APIs, and batch processing componentsAnalyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues across Java and legacy applications within established SLA timelinesDevelop and maintain interfaces between iSeries applications and external systems using REST/SOAP web services, MQ, and JDBC/JT400 connectivityCollaborate with business analysts and client stakeholders to translate functional requirements into detailed technical specifications and solution designsPerform code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to the team s knowledge base and documentation librarySupport database design and optimization on DB2 for i, including SQL tuning, stored procedures, and data modelingParticipate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives) and contribute to accurate effort estimationIdentify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and technical debt reduction within the managed services scopeWhat You'llo NeedRequired:Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)7+ years of hands-on software development experience, with at least 4 years focused on Java development on or integrated with the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platformStrong proficiency in Java (SE/EE), including experience with frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, or equivalentWorking knowledge of IBM iSeries technologies including DB2 for i, and the IFS (Integrated File System)Experience with JT400/JTOpen toolkit for Java-to-iSeries integrationSolid understanding of relational database design and advanced SQL on DB2 for iFamiliarity with web services development (RESTful APIs, SOAP, JSON/XML processing)Experience with version control systems (Git), Implementer and CI/CD pipelinesDemonstrated ability to work within a managed services or outsourced delivery model with defined SLAs and change management processesExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsPreferred:ITIL Foundation certification or practical experience with ITSM processes (incident, change, problem management)Experience with application performance monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar)Background in logistics, supply chain is a plusExperience with JenkinsPhysical DemandsAbility to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standardsSedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard and monitor
